Hey all, just wanted to make you aware of Bricks in the Six: Canada’s Largest LEGO Fan Event, held just outside of Toronto. The convention runs from November 14-17 and is about a 5 hour drive from Pittsburgh.
The convention is also run by some good friends of mine, and I’m sure they would love to have some Steel City LUG folks come up for it (I plan on attending).
You can find more details here: https://bricksinthe6.ca/August 8, 2024 at 2:47 pm #59987Benjamin C GoodParticipantThanks for letting us know. I am interested in Bricks in the Six, and I created an account, but I don’t think this is my year. I am happy enough with my build this year to take it to Chantilly and Erie, but not so excited about it (like I was last year) that it would justify the additional travel costs to put it out again.
Also, do you still need a passport to enter and leave Canada? I haven’t been to Canada since before 911, and I haven’t used my passport since 2005, which means it is almost certainly expired. I don’t know how easy or quick it is to renew these days. I have been to Toronto and it’s a neat city.
August 8, 2024 at 2:52 pm #59988Micah BeidemanParticipantYeah, you need a passport. I don’t think it’s particularly difficult to renew, but I think it usually takes 6 to 8 weeks.
August 8, 2024 at 3:26 pm #59990TimModerator@bengood921 U.S. Passports for adults expire after 10 years. To renew is 6-8 weeks normally but to apply for a new passport after expiration can take several months (depending upon the backlog at the State Department). You’ll also need to get a new photo taken (I always make my appointment with the Post Office as they seem to do the best job – Walgreens, etc. is hit-or-miss as to whether their photos will be accepted). Just FYI.
August 9, 2024 at 5:55 pm #60009DanParticipantYou can get a passport card for entry to land and certain sea borders. It’s the size of a driver’s license. Works for Canada, Mexico, and I think most of the Caribbean.
August 9, 2024 at 5:56 pm #60010DanParticipantI might be interested in this convention.
August 10, 2024 at 5:13 pm #60022TimModeratorI’ve also created an account. Registration is $100 for an exhibiter. Presuming that is Canadian dollars, that would be $72.69 at today’s exchange rare, about $17 less than BFVA’s $90 registration fee. The drive is also about the same as BFVA (4 hours 15 minutes from my house). I am strongly considering going (and Jacob wants to come as well). The timing in mid-November fits into my schedule.
August 10, 2024 at 5:38 pm #60023Micah BeidemanParticipantI can confirm the cost is in Canadian dollars. Also, if you guys come, I’ll actually hang out with you more at this one.
At BFVA I was staying at a friend’s house and we often just went back there to hang out and play games, as it was a nicer environment than the convention hall. But Bricks in the Six is definitely a nicer (and smaller) venue than BFVA, more conducive to hanging out and playing games.
August 16, 2024 at 6:49 pm #60136TimModeratormore conducive to hanging out and playing games.
Sounds awesome. At this point, I’ll say I’m 85% sure I’m going. Just need to check on a few more things but should be able to confirm my status by no later than mid-September. @hacim thank you again for bring this convention our attention!
October 8, 2024 at 3:54 pm #60946TimModerator@hacim FYI I have now registered myself and Jacob for this and have reserved a room in the room block at the Hilton. So we will be there sometime Thursday evening. I’ll bring a few board games as well.
Display-wise, I’m going to bring my Castle Apartment building (same as I took to BF-VA in 2023) along with the adjacent buildings and probably my Liberty Avenue buildings to round out a full city block. I’m in the middle of doing some upgrades on the adjacent buildings (adding some interiors with lights).
October 8, 2024 at 5:35 pm #60948Micah BeidemanParticipantSweet! Looking forward to it. I’ll probably be getting in Thursday afternoon. Not sure yet if I’ll be brining much to display or not.
October 9, 2024 at 2:22 pm #60969TimModeratorYes, I’m waiting for the display registration matrix to open up. The website merely says that it will be opened closer to the event. We’re almost 30 days out now so I would expect to see that opened soon.
October 10, 2024 at 12:18 pm #60990JoshKeymasterthat’s my birthday weekend…might be interested in a family trip up…
November 20, 2024 at 12:10 pm #61647TimModeratorJacob and I attended Bricks in the Six this past weekend, along with @hacim (thank you again for bringing this to my attention). This was a great Lego Convention. It is smaller than BrickFair VA (which gives it a nice intimate vibe) but still presented many quality builds equal to BFVA. It’s also further along than Brick Erie but I think Eire can get there in a few more years (especially if they continue to put more emphasis into the Lego convention aspect). The Hilton was a great location and the other attendees were all super nice. I intend to make this a regular event on my convention schedule. I would also encourage others to consider attending in the future. The drive for me was no further than Chantilly, VA (about 4.5 hours) and crossing the border in Buffalo was uneventful.
I displayed a city block featuring the Castle Apartment Building (with the white building – 421 Broome Street – recently finished including some interiors) with some of the Liberty Avenue building as background.
@watchwmarcella my “neighbor” in the exhibit hall was a friend of yours who met you at Brick Rodeo this year – Maya from Hamilton, Ontario. She and her husband were super nice and were displaying a large castle with full interiors along with a rural medieval village.
@tfdesigns I met Steve from Wisconsin who was wearing this awesome Classic Space shirt. This would not be hard to duplicate using Pennsylvania.Attachments:

She is so talented. I saw her display on IG. Insane! I love how much detail she puts into her landscaping. I had a blast getting to know her in Austin.
December 10, 2024 at 10:57 pm #62013Benjamin C GoodParticipantThis video was posted. I have not watched it yet, so I don’t know when Tim’s stuff shows up. It is not a BTB vid, and I am not familiar with the YT userid of the creator.
December 11, 2024 at 2:00 pm #62017Benjamin C GoodParticipantThe cameraman does a nice job of slowly panning over the builds. It’s great for the builds you’re interested in, although less so for those you’re not.
Early on, the video gets to David Koudys’s large classic space build. I have been familiar with it on Flickr for years and years, but I have never seen it in person or talked to David in any way. At the 10:30 mark, one Tim Freshly can be seen having a conversation with Koudys in the background.
Tim’s display shows up at 1:03:39, and gets about 15 seconds of screen time.
I’m still less than halfway through the video. If there’s any more updates, I’ll edit this post, rather than creating a new one.

They must have done this video on Saturday morning before the public hours. I had not yet gotten my cars set up or the lights turned on. Oh well.
FYI, the video starts out in the hallway (which wraps around the main hall on two sides) and goes around to all the displays there and then moves into the main hall, where I was set up.
