Sean CollinsParticipantI made this comment elsewhere, but thought I’d bring it over for clarity:
IDEA: could we put a link to the Activity & Challenge thread‘s first pos on the homepage, so it’s always easy to find?
Actually, it might be nice to have certain key / longstanding threads highlighted, outside of the “10 most recently active threads” list, so we can keep things on the radar even if they haven’t been commented on lately. I’m thinking of how when we have several events upcoming, plus other “noise” threads (#threadjacking) going on, sometimes one or more slip out of the most recents and get forgotten for a while… So the list could include Next LUG Meeting, LUGBulk 20XX, Build Challenges (could be quickly pulled up from anywhere you have people and bricks and need ideas), and Upcoming Events & Displays. And maybe something else I’m forgetting…
I saw your Tag and yeah its possible. My only concern is how to identify those key topics as everyone has their own idea of what maybe important. Maybe we should do a Favorite or Bookmark type of thing. This way we could give everyone the ability to choose what is important to them.

Matt RedfieldKeymasterThat write up looks good to me… definitely think it’d be nice to clearly define some of the other challenges / for me to ‘member they exist (non-dominant hand building is a pretty simple one, for example) so we can use them at places like Little City Coffee (they want us back, btw.)

Benjamin C GoodParticipantPS – Will’s comments also made me think of this: do people wash the stuff they redeem from LUGsupport? A lot of that stuff looks pretty new – and of course the stuff that was extras from LUGBulk2016 is definitely new – but some of it is visibly used, and at some point somebody told me that Hinkle said a lot of the pieces come from sets returned to stores. I’m hoping that this is not typical, but in 2013 me n Efran were working on sorting a LUGsupport box at Josh’s house and we pulled a big clump of hair out of the box, as well as cookie crumbs. It was, to say the least, pretty gross.

But only because huskies aren’t available in LUGBulk.

Greg SchubertParticipantI thought I would be able to save parts by not building the back the same as the front. But then I felt compelled to make the inside presentable which meant I could not use the less expensive modified bricks that are flat on one side and have something sticking out the other side. Also I had to build somewhat of an interior, so I am not sure if this is less part-intensive. One definite advantage to not having a back is that it is easier to reach inside to fix things.
Note: I actually used some LUGbulk 2016 parts! 🙂

Greg SchubertParticipantI am close to finishing a new Polar Express North Pole building. I am still waiting for some parts to arrive.
This building has no intended purpose, (ie. post office, candy factory, etc.) my intention was to make something like the buildings in the book and the movie. I also wanted to incorporate certain parts from the last two LUGbulk orders, particularly the windows and the roof.

Matt RedfieldKeymasterLOL, just kidding This may help you understand why I didn’t mind verifying LUGBulk orders the other day
OK, cool. Generally speaking, I make teh jokes with abandon, but I wanted to make sure it wasn’t legitimately offending you, since you’re new-ish and humor/tone (i.e. – faux anger) doesn’t always translate online.
But yeah, if you think counting is fun, then by all means, do that!

Erin D.ParticipantDon’t hate on the new girl, dude!
Wait, what about my comments was construed as “hating on the new girl”…? That was not my intention at all…

Greg SchubertParticipantThe original topic was ‘stuff I read about in the PennLUG monthly email,’ specifically RLUG and LUGbulk, which is the title of the thread.

Your lugbulk concern is noted.
Is it still a thread jack if you change the topic in the initial post???
September 26, 2016 at 9:15 pm #18000Topic: RLUG? LUGbulk?
in forum LUG discussionsGreg SchubertParticipantWhat does this mean “Changes for RLUG Guidelines for use of LEGO IP?” It was in a newsletter from PennLUG.
Also what is with the LUGbulk shipment coming so long after we have to create our orders. Why couldn’t we just order in July, if they aren’t even going to invoice us until August?
Hannah DowParticipantThe only reason I like the MILS is that the baseplates connect together easily and the seams are less noticeable. I would be all for letting go of MILS if I hadn’t already spent so much on white plates to MILS all my Christmas stuff :p At least allow me this year to use them; provided LUGBULK comes in at a decent time.
So I’m a big fan of the cohesive Lego display look and personally, I don’t like seeing a big display with the table cloth showing. It just looks like they ran out of time and/or parts. For that reason, I would place baseplates wherever there’s empty space and force ourselves to build something fun in those spaces to liven up the display. This opinion does not include the space displays with tablecloth discussion as I’m not familiar enough with displaying that theme to comment.

Greg SchubertParticipantThe new LEGO Disney Princess castle from FROZEN has white leaf elements. I did not see that on LUGbulk options for 2015 or 2106, however there were olive, purple and dark red “limb element, small” pieces.
