To celebrate our first year as a group, we’re going to be having a birthday party on Saturday, August 24th, and you’re invited! We’ll have 4 main activities:
10am – First, we’ll meet at the Cranberry Public Library to remove our Dig Into Reading display and take pictures of everyone’s contributions.
1pm (or sooner) – Second, we’ll head over to Tim’s house, minutes from the library, to have lunch and begin our Q3 business meeting.
3-5 – Awards, raffle, and parts draft. We’ll be giving away sets in the raffle and every participant in the draft should look forward to taking a couple hundred parts home!
5-8pm – Sorting and socializing. We’ll be sorting the LUG’s parts inventory. We are asking everyone to bring $15 to help offset costs for the party. Anything extra will go into the general fund. Contact Josh if you have any concerns there – our goal is to have as many participate as possible! Don’t feel the pressure to show up for the tear down or stay for the sorting; We realize this will be a long day. Come for what you can and you will not regret it!
Please take time to RSVP on the Doodle and bring something along: http://www.doodle.com/9hf8wvgt2esqubiw
We’re also looking to gather survey results for 2014, so please take a few minutes to answer these 9 questions – http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2VV7BV3
Any questions, email josh@steelcitylug.com and we hope to see you there!
Anyone have a preference between Saturday August 24th vs Saturday Aug 31st? location tdb. I’m not sure if school is back in session for anyone then to pose a problem or not. Let me know if we’d rather have a doodle than hashing it out verbally. I’d lean towards the 24th, to stay away from the labor weekend. I’m thinking of not going into september so we can fit a q4 meeting in before my #2 and the holidays.July 8, 2013 at 5:28 pm #2332Matt RedfieldKeymasterI’d lean towards the 24th, to stay away from the labor weekend.
Seconded. I have a wedding to attend on Sat 31st, and friends in town to boot.
July 9, 2013 at 9:02 pm #2344DanParticipant24th is better for me.
July 12, 2013 at 1:48 am #2378Andrew W. Huntley IIParticipantEither is good for me.
July 12, 2013 at 6:38 am #2379Greg SchubertParticipantI’m not sure if school is back in session for anyone then to pose a problem or not.
School is back in session by then, but there are no Saturday obligations … unless, I suppose, someone is taking a student back to college that weekend.
July 12, 2013 at 4:11 pm #2384JoshKeymasteror one of our student members is moving 😛

Ben, at this point, I think we are in agreement that we will be meeting on August 24th in Cranberry.

July 31, 2013 at 8:43 pm #2490Greg SchubertParticipantI think our fearless leader Josh is hashing out the details. But it should start in the morning at the library, (I think the library is on Rochester Road,) where we will dismantle our current display.
July 31, 2013 at 11:29 pm #2520JoshKeymasterfearless leader
lol…If that’s true, I’m afraid for you all.
First post of this thread has been edited to reflect the event date. Details and updates will continue. give me your thoughts!
August 1, 2013 at 9:46 pm #2546Andrew W. Huntley IIParticipantIs anybody coming from the city? I could definitely use a ride that day.
August 2, 2013 at 8:05 am #2548TimModeratorok, i would like to come. what time and where exactly? i’m in the north hills, cranberry is easy for me to get to.
2525 Rochester Road, Cranberry Township, PA 16066 Web: http://www.cranberrytownship.org/index.aspx?nid=830
I recommend taking the 228 Exit off I-79 (Mars exit). Turn left at the end of the off ramp. The next light is Route 19. Turn right (north) and continue for 1-2 miles to Rochester Road (there is stoplight). Turn left onto Rochester and the library is in the township building on the left. If you get to St. Ferdinand Catholic Church (huge brick church) you just missed it.

Andrew, I’ll be going, and may have some space. Could you get to Polish Hill, or maybe catch the T to Downtown, so I don’t have to head South to Dormont before heading North to Cranberry?
August 3, 2013 at 7:39 pm #2585Andrew W. Huntley IIParticipantI can definitely get downtown, no problem. Thank you.
August 4, 2013 at 4:37 pm #2591Greg SchubertParticipantI know its several weeks away, but
1) is there a sign up list for food?
2) what are we sorting parts into?August 4, 2013 at 9:01 pm #2595JoshKeymaster1) is there a sign up list for food?
Here’s a doodle to sign up for things to bring for the party:

I’ll also be asking people to fill out this survey to steer our 2014 development: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/2VV7BV3
2) what are we sorting parts into?
I’ve got all the shoebox/2xshoebox/large bins that I’ll bring along.
August 7, 2013 at 2:37 am #2623DanParticipantI’m pumped!
Might I be able to hitch a ride to Cranberry?
August 7, 2013 at 3:07 am #2624Benjamin C GoodParticipantI’m pumped too. Brickfair was awesome as usual, I met Tim and Evan while I was there.
August 7, 2013 at 11:58 am #2628LauraParticipantI’ll be there, I have school on the 23rd but I have to come back that weekend anyway. I’ll be driving from the north hills (Bellevue) if anyone needs a ride. See yinz then!
August 7, 2013 at 1:37 pm #2636TimModeratorIt looks like nine people so far are planning to attend – Josh, Matt, Andrew, Greg, Evan, Ben, Dan W., Laura, and me. Is anyone else planning on coming? I need to know how many chairs and tables to have set up.
August 7, 2013 at 3:16 pm #2641Matt RedfieldKeymasterDan, if you can get to my house again, you can ride along. We can hammer out details later.
August 9, 2013 at 5:30 am #2667ZemataParticipant…from the brickfair 2013 thread…
Yup, “Best small spacecraft” alright. I’ll take it haha!
I implore you all to take a gander at my photo stream as well as Cale’s from Pennlug. We both took tons of photos of all the major MOCs at the convention.
just a heads up tim, evan, and ben – I’d love to reserve a few minutes at our meeting for each of you to debrief us on your perspectives of the event. tell us what you took, what you did, what you liked, what you didnt like, what you got, why we should all join you next time, etc.
I’m way ahead of you here. I took notes while talking to the more developed LUGs and members and had been brainstorming ways to get us working towards our own large scale displays and setups. I’d like about 10-15 minutes during your Q3 speech to talk to everyone about ways to get us moving. I plan to cover topics ranging from a modular landscape system I discovered (with a prebuilt example I’ll be bringing), how we can plan our next LUG bulk order to get a stockpile of pieces for landscapes, and basic table crafting.
