Hey folks, name’s Rhett. I’m about a year into rediscovering Lego, and I just found out that LUGs exist? So I’m here to see what they are like. My first love was Lego Space from the 90’s – M-Tron was my first love, but I got into a lot of the early post-classic series as a kid. Since getting back into the hobby, I’ve been pretty disappointed by the prevalence of Licensed stuff over original themes. But I really kind of dig the new City Space theme, it feels a bit like a return to form.
I’ve taken some pictures of the stuff I’ve built lately to show them off – first up is my first largely original MOC, which is a Lunar Research Base in Classic Space style. It draws a lot of inspiration from the Space Rover Creator 3-in-1 from a few years back.
The exterior of the base with a generator and drone mount. I’m pretty happy with the overall shape of the base. I tried to adapt the sliding door from the Set, but I didn’t like how it came out, so for now there’s no door.
Flip it around and you can see a cutaway to the interior space. The missing door would go on the right.
The Main Lab is where the base lead has her desk, and also where the Med droid works when someone needs medical care. You can see that I don’t mind using unofficial prints when they fit the build – there’s a few of them scattered throughout.
The other room has a workbench and the controls for the generator that powers the base.
Overall I’m really happy with how this build turned out. The next one I have to show you is a lot subtler, but I think it’s actually the one I’m most proud of.
This is a reworking of the C Model of the Galaxy Explorer remake Lego did. But, I added landing gear and made the line of the blue part sleeker – more in line with how the A and B models handle that slope. It took me a while to figure out how to rework the technic frame to make both of those fit together, but I’m very happy with how it came out!
The project I’m currently excited about is a little more old school. Like I said, I loved the late 80’s/early 90’s, but most of them only got a single wave. So I’m trying to imagine what a full second wave of M-Tron could have looked like.
As a warm up, I’m reworking the M-Tron super model. This was my favorite set as a kid, but it really looks awful once you deploy the rover. So I wanted to take the front half and build out a back half that felt consistent with other M-Tron sets of the time. This one is very much a work in progress.
Looking forward to getting to know folks on here and – hopefully soon – in person as well. Thanks for looking at my toys!

One of my first sets was a lego space set and my youngest and I have enjoyed combing thru this Lego Space book. Great looking build!
