Hello LUG members!
I had the opportunity to take part in a call with Paul Striefler and we had a great discussion about the future of AFOL day.
I asked Josh if it was okay to post the question here to all of you: What would YOU Like to see in future AFOL days?
Is it discounts? Specials? AFOL only deals? Exclusives?I would love to know anything and everything – any ideas or thoughts, questions that I can use to better our time together on that special AFOL day!
Thanks in advance for your time!

The 15% off discount is nice, but the limits on it (no large Exclusive sets) makes it less desirable than just getting those same sets on sale at Target or Wal-Mart for often times 20% or better. Maybe make the discount 10% off and have all sets be eligible.
Here are some other ideas I have.
1. Make the AFOL day the day that the Brick Wall gets significant changes made to the parts available.
2. Have a special passport type document that you bring in on each AFOL day in the year and if you get it stamped each day then you get a special free set at the end of the year.
3. I think a build challenge in the store that morning would also be a great draw. Oooo, maybe even make it one that you build for in the store 9 – 10 am and then any one who goes through the store for the rest of the day can vote for their favorite build and then the person with the most votes wins a gift card or something.January 6, 2020 at 7:23 pm #34911Jim RolfeParticipantI like the giveaways. Enter me in a drawing and give me a poly bag or minifig or something and I’m happy.
I like the idea of extending the discount to all sets. Excluding sets is a bummer. With that said, I mostly buy PAB parts on AFOL days so “new” parts release those days would be great!
Maybe have every AFOL Day be double VIP OR TRIPLE VIP!!! :). Mmmmm…triple VIP…Jim likes the sounds of that! 😉
I also like David’s build challenge idea. Announce the challenge, have participants buy a small PAB cup for the first 15-20 minutes, then a 20-30 minute build and a voting for “best of show” by the Lego Store staff for a gift card or small set. I’m in!!

January 7, 2020 at 10:15 am #34952Rich MillichParticipantI would be interested in a package deal of smaller sets of a given line with a small discount for buying two related entry level sets in said line. That’s how I got hooked into Nexo Knights.
This is VERY true of those who are just getting into LEGO, as I recommend the smaller Creator sets, in multiples, to build core colors quickly. Typically, buying multiples of the SAME set creates a strong aesthetic as certain parts and assemblies are repeated. With the PaB wall right there, a decent collection can be started for less than $40: two small Creator sets and a well built cup with basic plate, modified plate, and some SNOT bricks.
The Xtra line is VERY underrated. I also like the idea of tying the Xtra sets to sets on the shelves that are related to the sticker sheets and parts inside. The Xtra sets are really, reall good, and the baseplates are much more likely to appeal to AFOLs, as adult fans like to build more complete worlds than vehicles and buildings that sit independently. This line is basically an analog to the utility sets for train modelers and their displays, and is cheap enough to be a great value.

January 7, 2020 at 5:37 pm #34971Benjamin C GoodParticipantI had a big reply typed up here, and then the site timed me out again and I lost the whole thing. I don’t have time to type it up again now, so it’ll have to wait a couple days. But I’ll repost it again eventually.
January 7, 2020 at 9:04 pm #35003Skipper MikeParticipantI talked with you a little in person about this. I also like the idea of of exclusive sets or minifigs available to Afols. I suspect that they don’t want this to be super well known and seeing exclusives showing up would add more publicity.
January 8, 2020 at 4:05 pm #35029Will McDineParticipantThe one thing I would like to see is the Adult build days lining up with the AFOL days. I love some of the adult builds (like the motor cycle and today’s news stand) but I can’t attend them because I work Wednesday’s… I do like the early store times though, I would like to think maybe we could get in earlier but regardless I would like to see the Adult builds make their way into the AFOL day.
January 16, 2020 at 5:23 pm #35192PaulaParticipantI’ll be typing a report for Paul on Monday so please add anything until then! Thanks again- I have some great things to share!
January 24, 2020 at 3:41 pm #35380PaulaParticipantI sent all of this and more to Paul! I can’t wait to see what changes are in store!
Thank you all for this great info! You’re helping to lead the way!
