This will be the third year (I think, might be 4th) for this event held at the CCBC Dome. Myself and Kristin have attended it with the 501st foe 2 years and last year I mentioned to the organizer that we were part of the LUG and that could potentially be fun for this type of event and she seemed to agree.
Well, she reached out to us and gave us some preliminary info. I still want to talk with her a bit about what she is thinking would be good sets/displays for the Con. I also may combine both 501st and LUG by building a set in my costume (her suggestion)!
Setup: Friday, October 18th
Library Con: Saturday, October 19th, 12-3PM
Again, this is just preliminary stuff, will be more details coming. This involves the whole of the Beaver County library system and they work a lot with the other county libraries as well so this could be a bigger thing over time. There are vendors, activities for the kids and a costume contest so you are encouraged to dress up for it!
One thing, I was just thinking that the library is right next door to the Dome and that is open and has different, quieter activities to do and that may be even better for display purposes of the Lego. Worth thinking about and discussing.

Hi Steel City Lug,
We’d love for you to participate in Librarycon, a major free community event for the Beaver County Library System! A member of your group, Jon Wagner mentioned Steel City Lug to us, and we were hooked!
Date: October 19
Time 12-3PM
Location: The Community College of Library and DomeOur libraries currently have 3 Lego clubs, and we’re hoping to grow that number. We believe that Librarycon would be a fantastic opportunity for you to connect with the community and help us grow some hype.
Jon and I are in communication about possible activities, and attraction locations to have available. We can provide you with booth space/tables/area to demonstrate Lego activities. We have two locations, (The CCBC Dome and The Library) that participants travel back and forth from. The Dome houses all of the vendors, organizations, costume contest, etc. And the library is a sensory friendly area with our Tiny Art Show, Therapy Bunnies, and it could be a great location for Lug’s larger, more intricate displays– can’t have LIBRARYCON without a library to rep.
Let me know if you have any questions and we hope you can fit us into your event schedule.
Thank you,
Courtney Colaizzi

Aliquippa, Pennsylvania 15001June 27, 2024 at 11:29 am #59492Jonathan WagnerParticipantHey all!
I know everyone is busy with preparation for summer events but I got a message from Courtney that they are running out of tables for the event and they need to know what we would need.
My question would be, should we be in the main area where the vendors are at? Or be in the Library where it’s quieter. Who is wanting to bring anything to display? Anything pop-culture based works, comics, movies, etc but also literature since it’s Library Con.
Kristin and I will have a table with Lego so kids can build a model, hopefully using one of the library’s Lego. I’ll also bring a couple things to display. Anyone else interested? It’s a really fun event and growing larger every year, lots of costumes to see.
June 27, 2024 at 3:52 pm #59494Jonathan WagnerParticipantAnother update:
Beaver Library is going to bring the Lego for kids to build with and Kristin and I will bring the plates that have the things to build. I’m thinking 2 tables for building and 2 for display. For sure I will have the Harry Potter Castle, the LOTR Tower and a Star Wars walker and some smaller things potentially, depends on who else is coming to display.
I told Courtney I will let her know by tomorrow evening.

I’m a maybe, but could definitely send something. I won’t know for sure until closer. I have an Excel Workshop scheduled for that weekend, but it’ll only run if we hit a certain number of people.
I like quieter, but can do either if I make it. I can send (hopefully bring) some 8-bit/Mario MOCs if that works.
June 27, 2024 at 6:36 pm #59499TimModeratorJohn, whichever you prefer. I am planning on attending and will probably just set up Saturday morning as it is only a three hour event.
June 27, 2024 at 7:27 pm #59500Jonathan WagnerParticipantI think with building stuff for the kids, it might be in the main area but I’m going to double check.
Saturday setup is perfectly fine, it won’t be tough to do.
July 1, 2024 at 10:56 pm #59534GabeParticipantI am planning to attend, not sure if I’ll have anything to display by then (maybe a handful of GBC modules?). If the tables are full then they’re full, not a problem; I’m happy to help with just about anything.
July 4, 2024 at 11:20 am #59582Jonathan WagnerParticipantWe will be able to fit stuff, don’t worry!
August 23, 2024 at 11:03 pm #60256Jonathan WagnerParticipantQuick update for this one:
We will be “partnered” with the Beaver Library in the main area (the Dome). There will be 4 tables total, 8 footers I believe, so will have plenty of room.
I am going to be bringing 2 electric turntables I just recently got from MAC that work so great, a 1 foot and a 2 foot in diameter. The larger one I’ll have Hogwarts Castle on and the smaller will have Barad-Dur. Hoping to get lights on both of those soon. I’ll also have 2 storybooks, the one with Jack and the Beanstalk and also the Christmas Carol one. Shouldn’t take up a full table so will be plenty of room for other stuff.
August 23, 2024 at 11:32 pm #60257GabeParticipantI’ll have my crane MOC, which can drive around a bit (depending on the friction available from table coverings), and I’m hoping to have enough semi-reliable GBC modules to make a small loop but that’s a definite “maybe”.
August 25, 2024 at 12:33 pm #60278DanParticipantI’m checking on whether we can make it.
October 4, 2024 at 10:52 am #60886Jonathan WagnerParticipant2 weeks to go!
This is obviously a smaller event right now but it’s well attended by people and a lot of fun. I would like by the end of this weekend to have a count of who for sure can attend. Kristin and I are for sure, Gabe looks like a for sure and Tim as well. There were a few “unsures”, is anyone more sure now?
October 4, 2024 at 11:02 am #60887Jonathan WagnerParticipantAdding in the event placeholder also, I will open it for shifts next week once I get a total count.

Just curious, is there a need to know how many are coming before shifts are created (so I don’t forget to sign up for a shift)? In my never-led-an-event mind, the number of shifts would be roughly based on the available space to display builds and to stand around the tables talking with Con attendees and helping builders, and it wouldn’t be a big deal if not all the shifts are filled.
October 4, 2024 at 10:26 pm #60890Jonathan WagnerParticipantI don’t know this is just how I’m doing it based on us having 4 8 foot tables but sharing with Beaver Library where kids will be doing some building also.
My first time leading an event also and it makes sense to have shift sign ups before the event so it’s covered and not forgotten. Besides, I figured your crane will be fun to watch drive around, no sitting for you 😉
October 5, 2024 at 10:25 am #60895DanParticipantI’d like to attend, but I won’t know whether I’ll be free until a few days before.
October 6, 2024 at 8:05 pm #60917Jonathan WagnerParticipantShifts are open!
October 6, 2024 at 9:25 pm #60918Krista KModerator@argonvesher I’m still a maybe. My course is just below the threshold to run, which means they’ll wait until the last minute if they cancel.
@timf are you still going? If so, I could drop something off for you to take if you’re able.October 6, 2024 at 9:27 pm #60919Jonathan WagnerParticipant@knb112 Tim is not able to go.
October 6, 2024 at 9:39 pm #60921Krista KModerator@argonvesher Thanks for the heads up. Maybe I can get something to you this week or next. I’ll connect with you tomorrow.
October 7, 2024 at 4:04 pm #60925TimModeratorNo, unfortunately I have a conflict that weekend.
October 17, 2024 at 7:04 pm #61139GabeParticipantHow early is too early to show up on Saturday?
Also, does anyone have a half dozen or so long Lego chains (the ones that are around 16-17 studs) that they can bring? I realized just last night that I only have 2 so it would be tough to actually pick up anything!
October 18, 2024 at 12:32 am #61145Jonathan WagnerParticipantload in is 9-1130am so 9 is the earliest!
