Prepare for disappointment: Todd replied almost immediately, and he gave an emphatic no to the central table. So that ends it. I am attaching an updated version 4.

That’s fine, it was only a speculated thought, not a need or necessity. Looks good!

Not that this is a big deal, but I am just wondering. Did Todd say no because there is not a physical table available (or it costs more $$$ for every table used) or is there a safety issue with having the middle table, or does he just not want anyone to have middle tables (because they can look junky, etc.)? If the reason is #1, we could theoretically bring our own table (not suggesting we do this but just wondering).

Anyways, @bengood921 thank you for all the time you are putting in getting the tables straight for our use. It is greatly appreciated and we know that a good table layout forms the foundation for an awesome display! Looking forward to seeing everyone at BFVA!

His text is posted below. I’m not sure what that last sentence is referring to, so I’m wondering if they’re worrying about a table shortage.

Since the original plan called for 16 tables and the current one is only 14, and they’re going to set up to the old map before we get there, we will have two extra tables to rid of. Maybe people will need them, but I told him we can carry them to wherever they’re supposed to go, but we need to know where. I didn’t really get a reply on that.

“The inner table won’t work. It’s quite tight. And you’ve drawn it into the space for other non-LUG people. We want everyone to feel they belong and to have fun.

We are dealing with whatever tables we have available here.”

It’s time to pack up Delly and head out. I’ve already notified the HI that I’ll likely be arriving after midnight. I’m also looking forward to seeing everybody and their builds, and I’ll see everybody at noon tomorrow.

It’s been a long, stressful, and exhausting week. I’ll be glad to be on the road, and I’ll be glad when our tables are arranged and we’re setting up. (I love setting up.) And I’ll be really glad when I’m sitting at Otani’s, eating my steak and enjoying another onion volcano.

Anne and I made it to Chantilly on Saturday. One of the first things I saw made me think, “that is so COOL, our LUG should have it’s own version.”

Would anyone be up for collaboratively designing / building something which includes the Steel City LUG logo?

Fyi, Todd designated the theme for the BFVA ’24 show as “Aliens,” so there were countless disc-shaped UFO abductions.

As usual, there were a lot of impressive builds, these are just a few photos … unfortunately I was too amazed by the Rebel LUG creation to get any photos at all (derp)

Just a quick recap (I will submit pictures soon), This was an incredible show. Outside of the Non LUG members that we shared tables with, I think I can speak for everyone when I say it was a great time and we put on a great display. After speaking to Alexis I think we are going to prioritize this event and Brickworld Chicago in 2025. I am hopeful that we can get a stronger LUG presence for both!

I second that! I know it’s a year away, but if we want a bigger space, we need to get our plan in early (like March/April).

I’m heavily leaning to going HP again with an improved Great Hall and maybe some Diagon Alley buildings to complement @jrbookworm DA buildings.

Jacob is considering a large mosaic.

Looking forward to another great Con next August!

I’d be down for some form of collaboration! Perhaps Hogsmeade or something so we can get out of our comfort zones?

Definitely planning on going again next year. I had a blast. My girlfriend would also want to come. She’s gotten into lenticulars…

I should have a new lenticular as well. As soon as the LUGBULK order arrives.

    @greg
, I’m up for that! Got a small-scale head start with this award I made for @tfdesigns back in 2018! First question is how big do you want to go??

I think a collab build would be amazing!

Was an amazing time with our LUG and seeing all the many builds and talking with Lego fans.

Can’t wait for next year, bigger and better!

Just had a thought…I see a lot of collabs from other LUGs doing cities and space cities/themes, which overall are pretty easy to do i think since there is so much reference material and sets that exist.

What if we do something a lil more interesting like an underwater theme? I think that would allow for some massive creativity and we already know of someone that has extensive knowledge and ability with it. Talk about getting out of most people’s comfort zone, could be very colorful and a lot of fun!

I agreed that having a building standard (they already exist for castle and space) are a great way to do a collaborative. While those one-sided city streets with modular buildings are fine for local events, I think they are somewhat overlooked at conventions like Brick Fair.

The one LUG with the ocean / boardwalk collaborative at BFVA ’24 was really worth checking out. They had an agreed upon standard so each participant created a section of ocean, beach, boardwalk and a building. Example photos attached.

Did the LUG do an underwater collaborative in recent years … and were the sections basically just hexagonal plates? Of course Cam has an underwater display that is big enough for several LUGs!

The boardwalk one was very neat and well done but was essentially a city street with beach stuff. I’m thinking more underwater where things can be even more interesting and modular. You can have Atlantis your things or reefs or futuristic research buildings and ships, giant creatures, etc.

We didn’t, but Jeff from ColonialLUG had shared that standard with me and I believe we tossed around the idea of doing it, but didn’t for some reason.

I very vaguely recall talk about it being considered for a Cranberry Library display, but I don’t remember if it was actually used or not. I’m guessing it wasn’t, or there would’ve been pics and people would remember it.

like @whitesidewjw / Walter’s spectacular undersea display at the Brickfest October 2021?

I copied the photos that were on the LUG Facebook page from this event and uploaded them to the Gallery today. Unfortunately by doing it this way they’re all pretty low resolution jpeg’s.

As far as I can tell, all of the other pics posted in this thread are of other people’s or other LUG’s displays. If there are other photos out there of OUR displays, please post them here, or post a link and I’ll add them to the Gallery! Thanks!!

There’s a Discord thread called The BrickFair Bound, and somebody posted this today:

Fun fact: There were 745 8′ tables, 112 6′ tables, and 1830 chairs in the expo this year!

Completely forgot to do this. I have several and will upload them when I go on break!
