Here’s Hoth! (And some random LUG people talking loudly or ignoring everything)

I believe I have figured out my issue

Update: I was wrong. @joshhall can we take a look at the issue between the site and uploading photos from a Mobile device? Seems to always be an issue on my end at least. Has anyone else reported having similar issues?

Since none of you guys believed me when I said that my table fabric isn’t yellow, I took a pic when I was at Wal-Mart last Sunday, since they had all the colors in stock (which is rarely the case). On the very right is yellow. To the left of that is the one that I bought, which you’ll note is NOT YELLOW, since it has a definite orange tint compared to the one that is yellow.

I’d also bought an orange one, which I returned unopened after being happy with how the lava looked on the yellowish-orange one and how Lego’s bright light orange matched against it, even though it is definitely more yellowish than bright light orange is. I did not buy the reddish-orange or red ones.

This one came up at Otani and I need little prodding when it comes to reposting it, so here it is. I was incorrect in my recollection that it was 2016, it’s actually from 2017. Attendees at that dinner were Greg, Rachel, Rick, Tim, and myself. He was still using the original logo back then. According to the photo data, it was Saturday, August 5, 2017.

I also found a few videos I took in the smaller hall during World of Lights in 2018. That one I did in fact remember correctly, it was way lighter in there that year than it was this year – it could almost pass for daytime with just a few lights shut off to save energy, except you can see through the glass doors in the front that it’s dark out. One of the videos is only a few seconds long, although it’s still probably too big to post here. I’ll try anyway. When it doesn’t show up, you’ll know it didn’t work.

Let’s see if this works – nope. Normally when I try to attach too much, the post just never appears, but this one is showing up as posted with an error message, which I’m guessing everybody else can see also. And I don’t see any way to delete the post, so it’ll just sit here forever, as a monument to failure.

I just realized that this got posted on Saturday (I was in Lancaster this weekend, so it got by me). I have not watched it yet (it’s unlikely that I’ll ever watch the whole thing), and I haven’t even found our area yet in the video.

I hadn’t seen this either. Our part starts at 2:44:13 looks like they did it after hours mostly. They started in the main hall first then moved to the side hall whereas mine start in the side and work over the other way:

I still haven’t posted yet that the Hanlon & Hanlon GBC video for this event was posted nearly three weeks ago (while we were at Erie). Zander’s stuff shows up around 35:50, and his modules get nearly 30 seconds of screen time, which is a big upgrade over the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it treatment he got last year @knb112

I also still haven’t gotten around to watching the whole thing. The person who is functioning as the host here is unknown to me. The link I’m posting should start at 35:47.

Also – I mentioned this at Q3 and then didn’t follow through (because, Erie, but also because I am the worst) – Dan Pikora contacted me on Discord with a link to a Flickr album of photos he took of our island, and explicitly gave us permission to use the photos for things like The Gallery and Facebook. I’m probably too slow here, since I know photos for this event have been posted to both places and I’m not sure we need more, but the photos are nonetheless available to us, or if you just wanna check them out. I never get tired of seeing my own builds photographed by other people.

Dan is a very thorough photographer, so you might get some angles or close-ups not seen elsewhere. The downside is that he doesn’t curate his own photos, so all the ones that are blurry or too dark or otherwise unusable are all still in there, and it’s up to us to pick out the best ones. (I’ve talked to him about, he’s aware, he just doesn’t have time to do it.)

Also, the album contains the entire island (for a total of 395 photos), since he wasn’t sure where we begin and end. For those who weren’t there but are still following the thread – Steel City LUG photos are 1477-1622, and 1814-1871. (The ones in the middle, 1623-1813, are not us.) *** EDIT: typo corrected, I originally posted 1844, not 1814. ***

Thanks for the link to the video, GBC is something I have to skip at BFVA because I can barely get through in a four hour window … especially when these guys in red shirts hog up the best displays. 😀

When will Todd release the dates for next year’s Chantilly show? Back in the day he used to have the following year’s sign up open before the show ended.

If you go to the brickfair-dot-com exhibitor info, it’s currently the first news item. He’s still working on the contract for next year, and he never starts registration until the contract is in place. I don’t know why some years it takes longer to sort out the contract than others, there’s definitely been years when I got home from BrickFair on a Sunday and registered for the following year the next day.

But he does confirm that it’ll be the first weekend in August. I would have been willing to assume that even if he hadn’t posted it, it’s always the first full weekend in August. That means that in 2025, we’ll start on Wednesday, July 30 and end on Sunday, August 3.

Thanks @bengood921 for sharing that. They got some nice closing ups! Can’t miss out names on that 😂 (that was a Zander design)

You should just register as an attendee (even if you don’t display) so you have unlimited access. Even if you came for one day, you could come on Saturday, be in before the show opens to the public, and then stay after hours.

On a completely different line of thought, the rockwork for that castle is impressive but it would be better if it was not all dark gray. They could mix in some black, light gray, and dark tan as well as some small scrub bushes and plants to break up the rocks a bit.
