How many daily average sales do you think are made on bricklink? I have a rough estimate based on order numbers from two consecutive days, but let’s not talk data yet, just post your guess.

Possibly, I have not asked.

When my store was open it was in the range of 27-30K pieces, I sometimes got multiple orders per day, but more likely I went a week or two w/o anything, it was very irregular, so I have no useful guesses based on my own selling experiences. I would assume that the stores with 1million+ pieces are getting plenty of orders daily, but I have no idea how many.
August 25, 2014 at 4:28 pm #7434Matt RedfieldKeymasterAverage daily sales $ for Bricklink as a whole?
August 25, 2014 at 4:59 pm #7440Benjamin C GoodParticipantI thought he was asking number of sales, regardless of dollar value.
Dollar value makes it even more complicated. Since my store was on the small side, I didn’t wanna do anything to deter people from ordering, so I had no minimum order, and so I got a lot of orders that were under $1 or under $2, and almost all of them were under $10, but since I had some RC car parts, I also had a couple that were over $100. But if you’re mostly selling in large quantities, or selling stuff that makes Josh’s ‘ridiculously expensive parts list’, then you’re gonna have a much higher average than I did.
August 25, 2014 at 5:14 pm #7442Matt RedfieldKeymasterOK, well, if it were me and I meant number of sales / day, I might’ve phrased my query differently for clarity’s sake. Something like, “How many sales per day, on average, do you think are made on bricklink?” Dammit, Jim, Greg’s a doctor, not an English professor, so I suppose we’ll have to forgive him for the confusing wording.
August 25, 2014 at 5:41 pm #7443TimModeratorI interpreted the original question as “number of sale transactions”. I will go ahead and guess 1200. I assume contestants will be notified if they win a prize. :-p
August 25, 2014 at 6:14 pm #7444Benjamin C GoodParticipantOk Bones, I’m still thinking it’s fine the way is. If he wanted it to be dollars, he would’ve said ‘how much in daily sales’.
August 25, 2014 at 8:20 pm #7445Greg SchubertParticipantSo you’re extrapolating an answer based on just two days of sales for a store that has just under 6000 items for sale?
No, based on the bricklink order number (ex. Order #4629686) assigned to orders PLACED on consecutive days. One day I placed an order that was assigned number x and the next day I placed and order that was assigned the number x + y. I am looking for y.
But since y’all would rather debate the question than venture to provide an answer, Brave Sir Tim not withstanding, I will give you my estimate based on a single data point: its on the order of magnitude of 10,000 orders placed per day.

So, if the average BLer places an order once a month, that means 12 orders / year / member. Divide by 365.25, carry the two… wait, are these Price Is Right rules?
I’m gonna go with, “What is 10,504 Bricklink orders per day?”, Alex.
Ok Bones, I’m still thinking it’s fine the way is. If he wanted it to be dollars, he would’ve said ‘how much in daily sales’.
Perhaps, but I really wanted to use that reference.
Incidentally, Greg, did you know that Plastic Bricks Direct has the third most feedback on the entire site?
August 25, 2014 at 9:36 pm #7448Benjamin C GoodParticipantAh, that makes a lot more sense. How close to exactly 24 hours apart were they placed? Were they on a weekend or not? I’d be interested in more data points, although that requires people to have two different stores they wanna order from at once and the money to do so. I remember placing two orders just a few minutes apart once and being surprised at the gap in the two order numbers, so I shouldn’t be surprised by 10K a day, but at the time I didn’t give it any more thought than that.
August 26, 2014 at 3:32 pm #7457Greg SchubertParticipantNEXT bricklink QUESTION: Does anyone understand the basic premise of MOC shop? I originally thought people would be able to sell their own creations on bricklink this way. But I’ve been reading all kinds of confusing nonsense about having instructions and seeing MOC’s listed that are not for sale. Admittedly, I have no patience for fine print. Help?
August 26, 2014 at 11:28 pm #7458Matt RedfieldKeymasterI’ve been meaning to figure out MOC Shop ever since Alice Finch told Josh that we should put our Settlers of Catan board on it back at PBF in April… I don’t really get it, though. I thought it was “list your design so others can pay a fee to you to get the parts list + instructions, then they can go buy the parts on Bricklink”… but maybe that’s not *quite* how it works… if I get around to figuring it out I’ll let yinz know.
September 1, 2014 at 8:32 pm #7590Greg SchubertParticipant“What is 10,504 Bricklink orders per day?”, Alex.
If this is accurate, and making a wild assumption that the average sale is $30, then 3% is $1 and the site takes in $10,000 / day. I tried to see how much the site sold for but it seems not to have been divulged. Whatevs.
