At the Q1 meeting this weekend, someone ( @knb112 ?) brought up Brickworld in WV. It’s about a four hour trip, depending on how South you live. 🙂 All adults should have been vaccinated and passed through the obligate waiting period by then. Also, it is free to put something on display! Is anyone considering going to Charleston in mid-June?

And by Brickworld you mean BrickUniverse?

I’d consider it, since I’m so starved for conventions. BrickUniverse has come to Cleveland – which is significantly closer – more than once, and we never got anything organized for it, I definitely never went. I seem to remember that I79 goes right through downtown Charlestown, and it’s a nice drive. Four hours would make it about as far as BrickFair Va at the Dulles Expo.

My policy on conventions is that I have to be able to go without wearing a mask, twelve hours a day for four or five days straight wearing a mask sounds way less fun than being at my house. I’m still hoping for BFVA and BFNJ this year. BWC was canceled last month. So it depends on how things are when mid-June comes around. I got my first shot today.

I have a history of taking stuff to conventions, and then disassembling it with the idea that I’ll have a better version built by the time the next convention comes around, and then not actually getting it done (or even started), and having to go to the convention empty-handed. Therefore, I’ve made a point of not taking apart my space plants build from Feb 2020, even though it’s hardly my best work and was finalized quickly in the week leading up to departure for BricksCascade. Which means that it’s available for BrickUniverse WV, if I get nothing else finished before then.

Yep @greg that was me. 😊

I’d certainly like to go, but just not sure yet. With the lack of touch stations, it’ll be an up hill battle to keep my toddler entertained.

I’d be happy to send something though. I was working on a Pac-Man lenticular for PBF last year that travels really well.

Now if you meant Charleston instead of Charlestown, then yes – I-79 goes there, the drive is super easy and scenic in the summer (wildflowers in the medians is a big thing dahn WV.) It’s 3.5 hours from my house, which is between the rivers in PGH, so yeah ~4 hours from you Northies.

For now I’d say I’m intrigued by a probably smaller convention that’s fairly close to home, but share the concerns about safety / how fun it’ll be if we are still doing masks, no touching, etc. at that time.

I’m definitely interested in Brickworld Charleston. My guess is that masking will still be a thing at that point (probably through the end of 2021 honestly) but it may not be uniform (i.e. each individual can choose whether or not to mask). Mask requirements one way or the other will not be a deciding factor for me, but I certainly respect the choice of those for whom it will be a deciding factor (ex. Ben’s post above).

The current West Virginia rules require masks indoors (from https://governor.wv.gov/Pages/Statewide-Indoor-Face-Covering-Requirement.aspx):
Summary Overview – Statewide Indoor Face Covering Requirement (Amended)
Face covering must be worn at all times in all public indoor places
Does not apply to children under the age of 9 or anyone who has trouble breathing or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance
Does not apply when you are at a restaurant and actively consuming food or drink, or in a closed room by yourself
All businesses must post signs and ensure requirement is being followed

A copy of the Executive Order Amendment is here (for any Law Nerds): https://governor.wv.gov/Documents/2020%20Executive%20Orders/EO%2077-20%20Face%20Covering%20Amendment.pdf
    Takes effect Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 12 a.m.

Sweet! If anybody else ended up making it to this event, I’m not aware of it.

Brick “Universe” is going to be in Rochester NY on April 23-24. It’s going to be in Dayton OH on the same weekend as Brickfair VA, Aug 6-7.
