@emperorofthenorthpole – do you want me to send up one of those tiny bluetooth speakers to put in/on a train for “choo choo noises” fun?
That’s alright, I don’t have anything I can use them in/on currently.
January 9, 2023 at 10:44 am #49495TimModeratorAs stated in the “MILS Build Day – Saturday Jan 7” thread, we got a lot done this weekend. It looks like @rcgrier3406 and I are the only ones currently planning to do set up on Friday (of course, anyone else is very welcome to join us).
On Friday, our set up plan will be to get all of the MILS plates and track laid down, electricity supply set up, and test the 9v track to make sure it is working properly. On Saturday morning, we can then set up all the scenery. We have a few buildings, minifigs, etc. from Josh/LUG supply. I am planning on bringing trees/landscaping. Is anyone else planning on supplying scenery/buildings/etc.?
January 9, 2023 at 11:37 am #49500John SParticipantBeen somewhat following the thread. If you need buildings I have a “winterized” Main St, 5-6 baseplate long with a road that now runs a modified version of the trolley that came out recently. It uses pybricks to run the trolley line end to end with a stop in the middle so has some action to the scene.
Total footprint would be 2 x 5-6 baseplates if you have room or interested.
I’m late to the party so it’s no problem if no space is available. Figured I’d at least offer though. Thanks.

@amplef0rth Please post some photos or a video. I would love to see what you created. 🙂January 9, 2023 at 12:22 pm #49505Bob GrierParticipantAs @joshhall mentioned, we’ve decided to modify the layout somewhat based on what we got done on Saturday, and what @pnbrenem has so graciously loaned us to use for this event. I spent some time this morning making this rough “cut and paste” version to show the changes. Not pretty, but functional.
@timf, I put the (3) 9v loops in where I knew they would fit and didn’t try to necessarily butt up against the baseplates for the long radius curve corners. We can adjust as we see fit during set-up on Friday. I also put Phil’s turnouts in the “rail yard” area just to see how they would fit. Again, we can decide during set-up whether to use them or just lay straight rail sections down that aren’t connected to the outer loop track. I’m pretty sure we have enough of Phil’s track to do this, but I’ll try to do a count this afternoon to make sure.
@amplef0rth, we have a spot in the middle of the inner 9v double track that’s 5 baseplates wide by 2 deep that looks perfect for your Main St.! If you need wider that 5 baseplates, we might be able to accommodate that as long as we go in 5″ (16 studs, single track section) increments. Let me know.- This reply was modified 1 year, 10 months ago by Bob Grier.

5×2 works perfectly. I’ll try to get some photos and video up tonight if I can.
I’ll also sign up to be there during the show Saturday and Sunday.
January 9, 2023 at 2:03 pm #49509PLAYINGWITHECHOESParticipantTim, I have some 9v speed regulators and re-soldered 9v track wires. Should anything prove faulty during set up on Friday, let me know and I can bring a spare on Saturday morning for you guys to borrow on the 9v loop.
January 9, 2023 at 2:16 pm #49510Bob GrierParticipantFollow-up on ballasted and MILS’d track count for the updated layout:
* LUG double straight track 32×32 – 22
* LUG double straight track 16x32w – 2
* LUG double track R120/R104 90-degree curves – 4
* LUG double track standard R40 90-degree curves – 4
* PHIL single straight track 16×32 – 69.5 used of 80 provided
* PHIL single track standard R40 90-degree curves – 8 used of 12 provided
* PHIL turnouts – 3 used of 4 providedSo, we have what we need for ballasted and MILS’d track, with some of Phil’s left over if we want to modify any of the loops.

@playingwithechoes, please bring them, including the power supply cables if you have them. The current layout shows (4) 9v loops, and we currently only have (3) sets of speed regulators/connecting wires/power supplies coming. @jupdyke has some of the LUG’s connecting wires for repairs, but we don’t know whether he’s had a chance to do that yet. Thanks!- This reply was modified 1 year, 10 months ago by Bob Grier.

Will you be able to bring that on Friday afternoon? If so, great. If not, no problem – we’ll just leave the allocated space empty so you can drop it in on Saturday morning. Having a trolley run will be extra awesome for this event.
January 9, 2023 at 3:33 pm #49519John SParticipantHey Tim. I was just going to ask about logistics. I’m not sure if I can get there Friday due to work. If I can’t bring it until Saturday beforehand will I still be able to use loading area or need to enter through main entrance. Don’t know if you know the answer to that.
First time doing anything there. Do I need to pay to enter or need a pass? Or is my badge my entrance pass?
January 9, 2023 at 4:32 pm #49520PLAYINGWITHECHOESParticipant@rcgrier3406, Ten four.

Two questions @willmcdine:
* How big is it? If it’s what you had at BrickFest Live, I don’t think we have room for all of it.* Are you able to bring it to the Science Center either Friday afternoon from 1-5 pm, or Saturday morning from 9-10 am, and then be there for teardown Sunday after 4 pm? I know both Tim and my cars are pretty full already with all the LUG MILS’d stuff.
January 10, 2023 at 9:50 am #49553MitchParticipantHi all I also have a train I would love to add to the display, I have been loosely following this thread but have been busy. would It be possible to get my train added? I can post pictures if that’s helpful, I would love to have it even just stationary and getting loaded up, as it’s a cargo train.

Sure @mitchsbricks. Is it 9v, RC or just stationary? In any event, we can certainly add it to the display! Pictures are always helpful!
January 10, 2023 at 10:46 am #49568Glenn HollandParticipantApologies if this has been asked/answered already:
For getting in Saturday morning, will we be able to use the service elevator? My train boxes are large. An elevator would be helpful that morning.
I assume we can just say “I’m here to set up for the Locomotion event” and that will get us past having to pay admission?
@timf, is it possible to have an extra table for display/train maintenance?January 10, 2023 at 10:57 am #49569PLAYINGWITHECHOESParticipantI don’t know if the LUG badges will bypass having to pay admission, but I can’t see why not since we’re there as staff, not visitors. Maybe Josh or Tim can confirm.
I know I’m a museum member and can get my brother in as a 1+ on my member card as we plan to visit a few exhibits after our Saturday shift ends. So if admission is required for the LUG, then perhaps buddy up with anyone else in the LUG that is a member with guest privileges. I know the family plan can have to four on one card holder.
January 10, 2023 at 11:23 am #49571MitchParticipantit is rc and I attached a picture on tracks to give a sense of size. the cargo will likely be different or at least adjusted a little bit because I got some new pieces that will work better.

* Motorized Incline (battery operated Move Hub, motor and Pybricks program)
* PA themed custom train (steam loco, tender, 2 passenger cars and caboose) – 9v
* Mr. Rogers Trolley – 9v
* Accessories: (2) train stations, crossover, water tower, hand car, crossing signals.- This reply was modified 1 year, 10 months ago by Bob Grier.

Loading in on Friday is through the loading dock. I do not know whether the loading dock will be available on Saturday or not. You can go to the loading dock and buzz the staff; hopefully they will let you in.
I’ve asked for additional table availability.
No one should need to pay to get in. I’m waiting for an answer as to whether they will provide badges/passes or we just tell them we are staffing the display. As a general rule, wear your LUG name badge (if you have one) and a LUG shirt (again if you have one). That usually will get you in. I will update this once I hear back from Nicole. Thank you.
**NEW INFORMATION** We can get into the event hall as early as 7:00 am on Saturday and 8:00 am on Sunday for set up. I plan to be there around 9:00 am on Saturday morning.

@mitchsbricks yes please bring the train – looks great!
January 10, 2023 at 11:55 am #49586Bob GrierParticipantJust to clarify, load in on Friday is thru the PointView Hall Loading dock, which is on the Heinz Field side of the building. It’s not shown on the attached Parking Directions, but it’s the road just past the Main Entrance circle.
On Saturday, Nicole’s instructions say that early entry has to be thru the Security Entrance, which is the red double door on the Casino side of the building. There is also a loading dock there, but we’ll have to verify its availability for Saturday.

A big thanks to @timf, @rcgrier3406, and all of you train folks for taking this one and running with it. It sounds like it’s going to be an awesome display!
January 10, 2023 at 6:10 pm #49615Will McDineParticipant* How big is it? If it’s what you had at BrickFest Live, I don’t think we have room for all of it.
it is the Loop I had at Brickfest Live. If there is no room for it I completely Understand, I just have it and figured if the group needed it and could use it I would volunteer it. As far as transport I could more than likely get it there on Friday around 1. Getting it home Sunday evening would be a bit difficult for me. I do have a few things planned Sunday before I go into work so I might pop down in the evening if I can. Chances are not exactly likely though.
