I’m looking for someone to split a Modular Building with….
We’re heading to Put-in-Bay Ohio next week and will be stopping by the Beachwood Lego store (Cleveland) on my way. I was wondering if anyone out there wanted to go half on a Modular Building. I would purchase the building Monday then split it up / sort out in my free time at night over the week. My plan is to split everything evenly, then with the item that do not have an even number, I can skype/facetime you to do a quick parts draft. For delivery I can mail (if you pay shipping) or we can meet at a central location, I live in Uniontown. Below is a listing of the buildings I’m interested in buying with the BL parts inventory link.
Palace Cinema: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=10232-1
Parisian Restaurant: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=10243-1
Grand Emporium: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=10211-1
Pet Shop: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemInv.asp?S=10218-1This seems to be an affordable way to get about a 1000 bricks in mostly earth tone colors for about $80. I’m trying to build at least one modular building on a 16×32 baseplate per month. So if this works well, I plan to start doing this on a monthly basis. Let me know if anyone is interested.
September 10, 2014 at 6:03 pm #7714Greg SchubertParticipantJoe, why not just buy an entire building on alternating months and avoid the complications? Are you planning to get anything from the pick-a-brick wall?
September 11, 2014 at 9:06 am #7721JoeParticipantGreg, I really did laugh out loud when I read this, your right that would be a much easier solution. Leave it to me to over think things. But if anyone out there does want to do this, let me know.
And “of course” I will be picking a few cups from the P-A-B wall, what kind of AFOL I would be if I didn’t. Do you (or anyone else out there) need me to pick anything for you and could you also send me that link that shows what on the P-A-B walls?
September 11, 2014 at 10:49 am #7722Greg SchubertParticipantThe site for the PaB wall inventory is Brickbuildr but they have not updated it in almost a year. If you call them at 1-216-378-2060, you can ask what they have or possibly ask them to update it. I have yet to find a LEGO store employee who will tell you everything that is on the wall, but if you call when no one is likely to be there (like when kids are still in school) you can ask about specific things that you might be looking for … like those earth tone bricks.
I personally do not like the pressure of standing in front of the wall during a long trip, trying to figure out what to get, knowing that a family who wants to get back on the road is standing there waiting for me to get my act together. Regardless, the smaller the parts, the more cost effective it is to get them by volume … of course only if you have a use for the parts.

I had planned on going to the King of Prussia store this weekend and, depending on what they had, I was planning on buying several cups to fill specific needs for Greenberg and beyond. So if somebody can find an updated list somehow, please let me know.
September 11, 2014 at 4:04 pm #7725Greg SchubertParticipantI had planned on going to the King of Prussia store this weekend
Assuming that you cannot go to Philadelphia because you are sick, do you want to know what is at King of Prussia so that you ask our SCLUG reps to stop there for you? Otherwise, if you are planning to place an order over the phone, it does not matter WHERE you order the parts from because you will have to pay a flat fee of about ten bucks for shipping. So it might be easier to determine which store has the main part that you want and to order from them. My impression is that the Orlando store has the largest selection and that is who I usually call if I am placing a LEGO store order over the phone.
September 11, 2014 at 5:11 pm #7726Benjamin C GoodParticipantI did think of that, but I’m not sure I want to bother Rick and Micah with that, I feel like they already have their hands full doing the display on their own w/o having to also run errands for me. And the last time I checked (probably a week ago), the pages for the KoP walls were not particularly up-to-date either. If they wanna volunteer and I can get information on the wall, then I’ll consider it.
$10 for shipping!?!???!!?!? Screw that. I already hate having to pay shipping for my BrickLink orders. They should just be able to magically beam it to my house.
September 12, 2014 at 11:32 am #7730JoeParticipantGreg,
I’m glad to know I’m not the only who feels pressured and rushed at times, when standing in front of the PaB wall. I called (thanks for the number), they do have dark red1x2 bricks. I’ll pick up one large cup of those and possible a small cup of something else that catches my eye. Along with either the Parisian Restaurant or Palace Cinema, haven’t decided which one just yet.//////////////////////////
Ben, hope you feel better man….
September 12, 2014 at 12:08 pm #7731Benjamin C GoodParticipantOoh, did they give you a full list? What else do they have?
Thanks, I am back on medication that keeps me awake, so I need to keep busy, but I also can’t do anything too strenous, so I am at least getting a lot of sorting done.
September 13, 2014 at 7:07 am #7742JoeParticipantNo not a full list, I just asked about dark red brick, light blay 2×2 tile (not available), and light blay mason bricks (not available.
September 13, 2014 at 7:41 am #7744Greg SchubertParticipantJoe, when are you going? I know that Tim needs a bunch of bricks for his US Steel Tower and someone might want more black bricks for road building. I think we got black 1×4’s at Beachwood last Spring. I would also suggest looking for the female Research Scientists sets at the LEGO store.
September 14, 2014 at 9:11 pm #7770JoeParticipantI going up tomorrow, I’ll post a thread asking if anyone needs me to pick anything up. Do you want me to pick up a Research Scientist for you, if they have it in stock?
