Hey, folks! My name’s Christian. I live in the South Hills. Whilst incredibly bored at work one evening, I had an epiphany – Check and see if there’s a local LEGO Users Group. I came out of my Dark Ages roughly two years ago, after more than a decade-and-a-half. My favorite themes include anything Fantasy-related, Pirates, Marvel Super Heroes, and modulars, but I also have a soft spot for Space (the first theme I loved as a child). I’ll pick up random sets if they really strike my fancy, like some of the new Coast Guard products.
I enjoy MOCing – again, Fantasy stuff, and landscapes – but I’m a bit of a perfectionist and I don’t really love anything I make myself, so I usually start something, take it apart, start something else, take it apart… I know I’m likely just making excuses because I’m embarrassed of my creations, and I need to get over it. It’s a process. I have lots of fun ideas, and I’m looking forward to chatting with you all, getting more inspiration and maybe even some constructive feedback. I’d love to get involved with group projects, and I’m going to try, but I’m unfortunately not always reliable because of recurring health issues. :\
Pleasure to make your acquaintance!
May 22, 2013 at 2:15 pm #1872JoshKeymasterHi, Christian! welcome! glad to have a MOC’er interested in group builds. Do you have a flickr account? We’ve been adding all members pictures to the flickr group stream so they show up in the feed.
May 22, 2013 at 3:21 pm #1874DanParticipantHowdy! Have you ever built a treasure island? Seems like a nice mix of landscapes and pirates! (Pirates are what brought me back, although I must admit it was more the Imperial Soldiers than the pirates themselves)
May 22, 2013 at 5:25 pm #1878ChristianKParticipantI have a flickr feed, but as of now it only has a few poor cellphone pictures of existing sets, no MOC stuff. I’m in the process of trying to put together a better photography area – meaning, I need to run to the store and get some white poster board. 😉 My username on flickr is c-banck.
I haven’t done any Pirate MOCing at all. I have the Pirates of the Caribbean stuff, loved the ships, but I haven’t even really CONSIDERED doing any Pirates MOCs. Probably because I’m still mourning the fact that my mom gave all my old LEGO to a lady she worked with several years ago, and Classic Pirates is AWOL. 🙁

Welcome! One of the best thing I have found about being in an active LUG is that the collective creativity of the group pushes you (in a positive way) to higher levels of individual creativity. One thing I have found to be true is that even if you think what you build is not very good, when you show it to members of the public, they think it is awesome. 🙂

Fortunately, my mom always gives us a chance to claim stuff before getting rid of it. I implemented an “anything LEGO is worth saving – for resale if nothing else” policy, which worked out pretty well.

Me and Dan are the spacey guys. He’s specialized in Blacktron I styled MOCs, and I do custom minifig scale Vic Viper starfighters. Between the two of us, ideas abound! I’m a perfectionist too, and it takes anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months and 400-600 bricks for me to create a really polished MOC that meets my standards. I know exactly of what you speak, and am more than willing to give my advice, techniques, and exchange some brick too! Welcome aboard!
