Totally a drop shipping / stolen CC scam. I had something similar happen whilst buying a Fire Brigade on eBay about 18 months ago. By the time I received a package from Walmart and figured out what happened, eBay had already shut the seller down. They didn’t steal any money / info from me (I mean, obviously, the person whose CC was used got gypped, but hopefully had protection and got it sorted), and there was no further incident as far as I know. But yea, unfortunately the convenience of the digital age comes with many a method for deception and fraud…
August 19, 2014 at 3:44 pm #7376Benjamin C GoodParticipantI just sent a message to Amazon, it sez they should email me back within 12 hours.
The set is mixed in with other unsorted sets and the box has already been recycled, and I doubt they’re going to hold me responsible for the $27, so whenever you see stuff I’ve built in the future, you can wonder to yourself (or out loud) if my MOC is tainted by crime.

I mean, all your MOCs are already tainted by third party brick, so adding crime to the mix is nothing…

LOL <3
TRU sent me an email today for LEGO Fusion. I’m not sure what it is exactly, it seems like a building app / software that can be used with the pieces that come in the set. The idea is to design a resort.
Maybe after they get another angry letter from a 10 year old girl, the company’s next release of Fusion will enable kids to design sustainable water, food and energy sources for an African village … and the set will sell out under a minute.

Never to be produced again!

That’s actually an awesome idea – pair with charities like Blood:Water Mission to sell a set that (A) donates the profits to the charities, (B) “raises awareness” (since that is all the rage these days), and most importantly, (C) allows kids to engage in a fun way, build a deeper concern for their fellow mankind, and potentially come up with legitimate concepts to make a difference.
September 17, 2014 at 12:11 pm #7808Greg SchubertParticipantSo, should we design it ourselves and upload it to LEGO Ideas for a vote or should we outsource the idea to someone who is more directly connected to a charity?
September 17, 2014 at 5:01 pm #7816Matt RedfieldKeymasterWe’re dangerously close to going off-topic here, Greg, but I like that in a forum thread.
If we wanted to seriously pursue it, I’d think a draft build would be a good start to help pitch the idea, but getting insight from someone who works for (or closely with) a charity (or several, perhaps) on exactly what might help simulate their needs would be prudent. Honestly, I think the idea would need a good bit of thought to come up with a real game plan, but I do think the seed of the idea is worth watering…
October 9, 2014 at 8:42 am #8150Greg SchubertParticipantS@H currently has double VIP points, free shipping and an extra holiday set if your order is $99. I needed about $20 more in my cart to reach this threshold and the research institute would have been perfect but instead I threw in 4 baseplates. I have not placed the order yet, does anyone have any suggestions?
October 9, 2014 at 12:53 pm #8159JoshKeymasterso, I just placed an order for a rechargeable battery thing and RC train and an IR reciever…they sent those…with 8 8879 remote controls…could try your luck there for a repeat error 😛 I don’t think it’s stealing if they gave it to me! So, now the lug has controllers for our RC needs.
October 24, 2014 at 10:34 am #8430David H DonleyParticipantSo I just discovered this website…www.fretoys.com and they seem to be the exact same people as http://www.lugess.com. Even down to their customer service motto. Lugess appears to come out of California and Fresh Toys out of Rochester NY. Lugess has two negative reviews on the BBB website, nothing for Fresh Toys. The two websites are nearly identical in every way.
If it seems too good to be true, someone is getting ripped off.
October 24, 2014 at 6:37 pm #8446Benjamin C GoodParticipantI noticed that lugess is still there. It’s been more than two months since I made initial contact with Amazon, but then I never heard from them again. I was considering contacting them to see if there’s any follow-up information. My guess would be no though, the most likely story is that they’re trying to get them shut down but haven’t been successful yet.
Also, I’m guessing fretoys.com is not run by somebody named Jasper Fre, but rather is a typosquatting address for people trying to type ‘free toys’. Is that how you ended up there?

October 25, 2014 at 6:19 am #8453David H DonleyParticipantI actually ended up there due to a Chrome add-in called FVD Downloader. In addition to downloading any flash videos (Youtube, others) it also displays some advertising. So While on the Lego website I was mousing over a set and a little sub-menu popped up displaying several other sets for sale. One was for the $68 Creator Winter set (which took me to fresh toys), some others, and another for the Exosuit at Target. I actually went to the Target website which allowed me to get the Exosuit since they have it in stock. Yaaay!
At first I thought they were Lego sponsored pages, but that idea quickly vanished. I did some digging on the fresh toys site, remembered the discussion around lugess, and then realized they were basically the same thing.
But, more importantly, the Exosuit is available at Target if anyone is still interested.
October 25, 2014 at 10:22 am #8454Matt RedfieldKeymasterAt $5 above MSRP, tho. Which is only $3 above, if you use your RedCard. Still. Keep a weather eye on Amazon, and every so often it shows up at $35, just as God intended, and with free shipping (if you have Prime, of course!)
Of note – Target’s limit on this set is 3, whereas Amazon’s is 2… Target’s is usually 8 so you know even they are tightening the reins on this hot commodity.
October 26, 2014 at 2:01 pm #8475DanParticipantI’m torn on getting more exo suits. I really want them, but that’s not a good indicator of whether I’d actually use them!
November 11, 2014 at 6:13 pm #8881JoshKeymastergot this email to the lug today:
From: miriam m—
Subject: LEGO’sMessage Body:
I ordered a Star Wars Death Star for Xmas for grandson. Now he doesn’t want. Box unopened. Want to sell for $424.00[purchase price} – Do you know anyone who might want to purchase?if you’re interested, let me know and I’ll send you her email address.
November 11, 2014 at 6:14 pm #8882JoshKeymasterand just for reference, http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Death-Star-10188?fromListing=listing so the intent was if someone wanted to haggle.
November 11, 2014 at 6:19 pm #8883Matt RedfieldKeymasterPresuming the $424 includes tax n’at…
It’s a cool set, but I’d probably rather buy 80 Mixels… 😀
November 20, 2014 at 11:24 pm #9009JoshKeymasteralright, girls and boys, prepare thy wallets. every year I check http://bfads.net for good deals and this year is one of them.
walmart will have a lego and duplo set for $30.
lego 10664 – http://bfads.net/Item/Walmart-Black-Friday-LEGO-Creative-Tower/226984
duplo 10557 – http://bfads.net/Item/Walmart-Black-Friday-LEGO-Duplo-Giant-Tower/226989
bricklink doesn’t have the inventory for the duplo set, but the lego set parts out at ~$150.
a few years ago, Walmart had a similar deal. I bout $600 worth of the $30 sets. I made $1200 by selling just the sealed sets on craigslist. I kept a few for my personal inventory.
use this information wisely, as the more people that know about it, the more competition you will have.
November 21, 2014 at 8:11 am #9012David H DonleyParticipantI need 2 of those 10664’s.
November 21, 2014 at 2:00 pm #9020Benjamin C GoodParticipantI am reading that right though that it’s a Black Friday deal only, and in-store only, so I would have to – >>>>SHUDDER<<<< – go to WalMart on Black Friday? Jibblie jibblie jibblie jibblie jibblie…
Cause I could totally buy a couple of those also.
November 21, 2014 at 2:22 pm #9021Matt RedfieldKeymasterevery year I check http://bfads.net for good deals and this year is one of them.
You mean this year is one of every year?
so I would have to – >>>>SHUDDER<<<< – go to WalMart on Black Friday?
Not worth it.
Although… there are a LOT of good parts and good colors…
…but I’m morally opposed to Black Friday shopping. And Wal-Mart.
November 21, 2014 at 9:58 pm #9043Greg SchubertParticipantFYI, the TRU in Cranberry has a dozen of the Barrel Escape sets on clearance for $29.99. You can get a free racoon minifig in a bag with a $30 purchase. Tomorrow from 12-4 they have a free event that is supposed to involve building a winter village out of LEGO. (If they only knew.)
Also, the store now dubbed crapmart near me has two full boxes of CMF’s in the yellow bags for $3.99 each and the Target still has a few yellow CMF’s and a few Simpson’s for $2.99. YMMV
November 22, 2014 at 12:39 am #9052Matt RedfieldKeymastera free racoon minifig
…you mean Rocket Raccoon, who is going for $20+ on various outlets?
Tempting. More tempting than the $4 CMFs.
YMMV
We *just* got over the AFK debacle, and now you’re bringing int YMMV? Like to live dangerously, do we?
November 22, 2014 at 1:37 am #9053Benjamin C GoodParticipantYeah is it Rocket or is it that [inappropriate adjectives deleted] Chima racoon? Cause I’d definitely be interested in one of them.
‘Debacle’ is such a strong word. But yeah, I have no idea what YMMV means. You’re Merry Merry Velcome? Yodeling Mickey Mouse Volcano? Seriously, I got nothing.
