I like hyperbole.
Your Mileage May Vary. It’s a phrase frequently used on Chris on the Dollar’s blog, to indicate that he got lucky at a specific store, but don’t count on every store having the same deal / inventory.
November 22, 2014 at 9:59 am #9055Greg SchubertParticipantex. my local crapmart currently has benny’s spaceship at $80, YMMV
November 22, 2014 at 10:22 am #9056Matt RedfieldKeymasterFor anyone considering Black Friday shopping, especially at Crapmart, consider the following:

Several stores in our area are on that map…

If so, that was really really mean, sniff. I still don’t have that set. I built it with my nephew a week ago and it’s sweet.
November 22, 2014 at 5:06 pm #9072Greg SchubertParticipantWait, is Benny’s really going for $80 there
Yes, there were a few sets there. A couple of weeks ago they were less than that, including shipping, from Amazon UK.
November 22, 2014 at 10:23 pm #9081Matt RedfieldKeymasterFYI, the TRU in Cranberry has a dozen of the Barrel Escape sets on clearance for $29.99.
Relevant: Apparently, Shop@Home recently had Barrel Escape on clearance for $20, and Mirkwood Spiders for $15, but they’re both sold out now, and I have more of them than I need anyway. Still goes to show that TRU is always more expensive than other retailers.
November 23, 2014 at 2:31 pm #9083Greg SchubertParticipant@randomdan didn’t you say you got a solar panel kit and it had a bunch of motors in it?
I saw this one, but it only has one motor.
If some had, it would be cool to incorporate the mechanics of it into a LUG display with a farm.
November 23, 2014 at 10:31 pm #9089Greg SchubertParticipantMy aunt who lives in DC gave me a bunch of her MISB sets to sell for her …and this would be the week to have them on eBay / bricklink. If anyone is interested in any of these, please let me know (sooner rather than later) and I can provide further details. The prices will be about whatever the current lowest price is on bricklink for new sets. A lot of these are trains or technic sets.

November 23, 2014 at 10:44 pm #9091Matt RedfieldKeymasterMISB, you say? I’m just going to get this over with now, for Wiz’s sake: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=MISB (@bengood921)
I’d be interested in the Santa Fe sets. And the BNSF loco. Except that’d cost me about 2 months’ wages. So… prob can’t do it. You’ll make a killing with these.
November 23, 2014 at 10:47 pm #9092Greg SchubertParticipantI would love that backhoe, but with LUGBulk and Christmas coming up I don’t think I could afford it.
Its about $300. Its only $727.80 on Amazon. You’d get a much better deal on a used one that is missing just a couple of parts.
November 23, 2014 at 11:00 pm #9093Matt RedfieldKeymasterNOTE: THIS IS NOT A DEAL. DO NOT BUY THIS.
20pcs of 1×2 log bricks in tan for $88.88??!!?? And 78 sold???!!!???
I can buy $130 for $2.60 on Bricklink!!!
It’s a mad, mad world.

November 25, 2014 at 12:16 pm #9135Greg SchubertParticipantHere you go, Ben – no shipping, no tax. spaceship for 76 bucks:
November 25, 2014 at 1:59 pm #9141Benjamin C GoodParticipantUsed?!?!??!?? Thanks for the link, but I actually can’t act on this one now, since I put the set on the list of good items to get me for Christmas. My brother-in-law has a history of getting in trouble with my sister for making major purchases in December, so we’re all very aware of the rule against doing so.
November 27, 2014 at 1:53 pm #9169Greg SchubertParticipantlego 10664 – http://bfads.net/Item/Walmart-Black-Friday-LEGO-Creative-Tower/226984
Although its mostly bricks, I like the parts selection in this set. If anyone has the opportunity to buy these Creative Tower sets but is not interested in keeping them, I will be happy to reimburse that person for several of them.
November 28, 2014 at 9:19 am #9178JoshKeymasterI probably should have said this earlier, but when this deal happened years back, I bought all the ones I had online in the morning of black friday. I didn’t see it listed online this year, so I didn’t say anything, but I see it online now, but it’s out of stock or not available. Not sure if they sold out or they’ll make it available at some point…

November 28, 2014 at 9:24 am #9179JoshKeymasterso…not to get anyone too excited…but let me tell you the chronology of what happened…I looked on my phone when I woke up this morning, and the website said sold out. An hour or so later, I looked on my PC and it said “not available for purchase at this time”, but there were other sets that were listed as sold out. After I posted that message, I refreshed the page and the entire format of the listing changed and now it says “please check your local store for this item” …so, someone is doing something…
November 28, 2014 at 10:42 am #9182Greg SchubertParticipant“please check your local store for this item”
I checked about ever hour yesterday for that Creative Tower at walmart.com and it looked promising at first, but I don’t think its going to happen.
However, the Everything is Awesome version of the LEGO Movie with the minifigure is supposed to be $9 at Target … if you can find a store who has one.
November 30, 2014 at 11:04 pm #9235Benjamin C GoodParticipantWe didn’t look on the WalMart website for the Creative Tower until around 2pm, at which point it was long sold out. We were not brave enough to actually go to the WalMart at that point. The Tower reappeared on the website the next day, but at regular price, laaaaaame.
November 30, 2014 at 11:06 pm #9236Greg SchubertParticipantAt the stores where I inquired, the clerks said that the tower sold out within the first hour.
December 1, 2014 at 11:28 am #9242Greg SchubertParticipantI COULD have driven through Altoona yesterday, if I had known about this. I definitely would have bought this lot.
http://altoona.craigslist.org/tag/4784089161.html
Oh well
December 1, 2014 at 2:03 pm #9243LauraParticipantOh hey, I basically live next to altoona.
December 1, 2014 at 2:30 pm #9244Greg SchubertParticipant@laura , if you have the time and energy to pick this up for me I will gladly repay you. Of course if you want to swoop in on the deal yourself, I would not blame you. For either scenario, I’d act quickly, these opportunities seem not to last very long.
