April 17, 2015 at 11:54 am #11141David H DonleyParticipantGood job. Of course I would support this. 🙂
April 17, 2015 at 1:31 pm #11147Matt RedfieldKeymasterNot licensed? I only support LEGO Ideas based off of my favorite pop culture things, like such as movies and TV shows.
(that’s sarcastic; this is awesome! Only comment: needs more huskies!)
April 18, 2015 at 8:42 am #11178DuncanParticipantThanks guys. 🙂 its been averaging 30 votes a day. Hopefully when people see it at Pbf it will jump up.
April 19, 2015 at 10:33 am #11198ChristianParticipantLove it! I signed up so I could support it. Good Luck.
April 24, 2015 at 9:31 pm #11379Greg SchubertParticipantNot licensed?
Sarcasm aside, Matt’s nod to only licensed sets making it through LEGO IDEAS is something to consider. For sets to be successfully adopted, LEGO’s marketing branch has to determine that there will be a demand in the market place. The voting only gets their attention long enough to consider the proposed ideas.
It seems to me that if you want to get an idea approved, you have to consider the marketing angle. I am no business major, but I am sure that TLG knows that people are most likely to spend money on something
1) with which they identify strongly or which evokes an emotional response
2) contains parts / figs they want but cannot get elsewhere or
3) fills a perceived need.Of course none of this explains failed LEGO product lines like ZNAP or how dollar stores stay in business, so I realize my hypothesis, and grammar, are wide open to criticism.
April 25, 2015 at 12:30 pm #11381DuncanParticipantThank you Christian. I really appreciate it. 😉
Greg, I here you. Thats why I tried to design something with a lot of play value for kids that would look equally as good sitting on an adults desk or shelf.

Too true.

I do honestly think you’ve done a good job on both of those counts. It looks cool, is a reasonable size (I’d expect $35-50 price point if it did become a set) and would fit on a shelf nicely, and has play value for sure (but more huskies would help in that regard!) My cynicism stems from Big Bang Theory and Golden Girls and things of that ilk – great shows, perhaps, but really don’t see kids playing with them… it’ll just be for collectors / fans of the shows. And as cool as Ecto-1 is (let’s not talk about that crummy DeLorean model), I’m just bored with licensed everything… unfortunately, just like Top 40 radio hits, what people buy is what people sell.
You have a fighting chance, if we can get you the votes. Seemed like a bunch of people took interest at PBF; have you seen any evidence that you garnered some votes based on the weekend’s display being viewed by possibly upwards of 17,000 sets of eyes?
April 28, 2015 at 3:06 pm #11415Greg SchubertParticipantIts a great build, and it would look awesome incorporated into the winter section of our LUG display, but I am not seeing an emotional aspect. If there was a lone polar bear on a floating iceberg that people can recognize as being connected to climate change, then you have a product with an emotional attachment. However, I doubt president business and the Octan Corporation would approve.

Matt, Thank you. Sadly I’ve only gotten 20 more votes since PBF. I keep pimping it on Instagram , Tumblr, and Facebook. I was surprised I didn’t see a jump in support after PBF.
I feel you on the franchise sets. But they made a set with 3 birds, so I figured I have a shot.
I’m going to keep plugging away at it. I do see our point about a 2nd husky on a chain.
