Good evening everyone!
At our Q2 meeting, I mentioned that the township I live in (Penn Township, Westmoreland County) will be hosting their annual Fall festival September 20th-22nd. On Sunday, September 22nd, there will be a LEGO free build contest for children 6 and under, 7 – 17, and 18+. Contestants will build MOC’s at home and bring them to the festival for competition.
When I learned about the event, I thought it would be a nice idea to get the LUG some exposure in Westmoreland county. I talked to the individual that is hosting the LEGO build competition and he said they’d definitely be interested in having us – he also said he’d get us a free text space (tent is 10×10).
As this is in my hometown area, I’d love to make this work and I wanted to see if anyone would be willing/able to assist.

Hi Will. I’m bummed I won’t be able to make it to Erie Con but since this is in my hometown, I figured it’d be a good opportunity!
My wife and I have decided that we’ll be representing the LUG for the event. However, if anyone else is interested in helping, we’d greatly appreciate it!
June 11, 2024 at 8:39 pm #59375TimModeratorI may have a conflict that weekend but will definitely keep this in mind as it sounds like a great event. It was nice meeting you and Megen at the Q2 meeting on Saturday (I was sitting beside Megen).

It was really nice meeting you as well! Definitely keep it in mind – I’m sure you could enter the pie eating contest as well 🤣

– Are you looking to be there all 3 days, or just Sunday?
– Are you thinking about putting out some displays, or just having play brick there for the kids? I could bring some locally recognizable stuff like Falling Water and the Duquesne Incline. Both are 2 baseplates each, and the Incline is motorized.

Hi Bob! Thanks for showing interest! If possible, the gentleman I’m working with, Jimmy, would like to have us there all 3 days. Hours have not been posted yet so I’ll have to keep that updated.
I think we’ll have space for two tables, so I think it might be nice to have a build table and a display table. I thinking have a couple of local display sets would be a nice touch.

I’d be willing to take a shift with Bob Saturday evening and then try to come back Sunday for the entire day, if not at least for the judging shift.
Do we need anymore builds to fill the table(s)? I don’t really have anything in the way of MOC’s. I just have a few minifigure MOC’s that just created this past week… lol. It’s a start for me. I do have a ton of set builds I could offer. Let me know.
Thanks for setting this up Keith.

Hi Pam!
I really appreciate you being able to help out! I forgot I had a wedding to go to Saturday night so I was hoping someone would be able to come and support Bob!
Don’t worry about bringing anything other than yourself. Bob is bringing a couple local related MOC’s but otherwise, it’s a small booth with two tables (one will have play brick and the other will display the kids builds).
Thank you again!
September 21, 2024 at 8:51 am #60692Bob GrierParticipantSome pics from set-up at the Penn Township Fall Festival last night. Pretty simple set-up, 10’x10′ open sided tent with 2 tables, one for play brick building and one for a couple of displays and a place to put the stuff that the kids build.
The festival was pretty well attended last night. Traffic at our booth was mixed, with some busy times and some slow periods. I didn’t remember to take any pics of the kids builds last night, but I’ll get some today.
We’re there again today (Saturday) from noon until 9:30 pm (with Zambelli Fireworks tonight), and again on Sunday from noon until 5 pm. Lots going on at the festival, with carnival rides, craft booths and tons of food options so if you’re in the area stop by and say Hi!!

Thanks for the update @rcgrier3406! I will see you soon. I signed up for the 5pm – 9:30 shift!
If by chance you see this before I leave or get there, please let me know where were are set up at. I don’t big the festival land space is.. and want to make sure I find us fast enough. Also took myself off for Sunday’s shifts. There are plenty of us signed up, or I would have stayed on. I start a new job Monday and need to prep for that, so I’m just going to pass on those shifts.
Thanks,
PamelaSeptember 21, 2024 at 3:28 pm #60703KeithParticipantHi Pam!
I don’t know if I’ll see you before I head out, but we’re next to the info booth and across from Bubba’s homemade pierogis stand. There’s plenty of parking so you should be good!

Right across from us pierogis, stuffed cabbage, etc. But there’s so much here it’s hard to choose what to eat 😂
September 22, 2024 at 9:35 am #60706Bob GrierParticipantCouple more pics from Saturday at this event, primarily focused on some of the more creative kids builds. We had several who stayed with us and were diligently working and then reworking their builds for up to an hour!!
Couple of brief thunderstorms that rolled through during the afternoon, but we weathered the rain OK without too many issues. Things got busy after the storms passed through and in anticipation of the fireworks!
We’re there again today from noon until 5 pm. If you want to come out and help us judge the LEGO Building Contest, that’s scheduled for 3 pm!!

There were 21 entries, all between the ages of 7 and 17.
