started doing this thing where they keep a 32×32 baseplate handy, and it’s got one of every piece available – either on the wall or in the back – stuck to it.
The Potomac Mills Store (Woodbridge, VA) started doing this about a year and a half ago. I think it is a great idea and helps not only us AFOLs quickly ascertain piece availability, but also helps the Stores to potentially sell more product.
September 20, 2018 at 8:34 am #28724PaulaParticipantThey do that in my training store as well. My PAB wall will be small, so it’s definitely something we plan to do

It’s too bad you can’t use the upper shelves. I know they are there just for looks and there are liability/injury concerns if pieces were actually up there. But it would allow for greater variety of bricks.
September 25, 2018 at 1:22 pm #28764Matt RedfieldKeymasterHey @paulamalu, can you confirm your statement from the Jobs thread:
Soft opening is October the 5th with a grand opening to follow a month later. We are going to host a training a few days before we soft open.
Over on teh facebook, people are questioning things / spreading falsehoods (maybe?)
“We have it on good authority the official grand opening is Oct 5th. There may be a soft opening before then, but nothing for sure yet.” – Steel City LUG (we may have an oops there, if 10/5 is actually just the soft opening…)
“It says on the site that it’s Oct 1 now” (comment just now by someone I don’t know)
September 26, 2018 at 5:31 pm #28786Jim RolfeParticipant@philmatt24 I did not see any updates anywhere…maybe I missed them? I was going off the soft launch date @paulamalu had said before with a “formal” launch in November. I hope this is correct…I’m skipping work to be there 10/5!

I just realized that October 5 is NEXT FRIDAY! Time flies.
Depending on my work load, I may be able to go down on Friday. One of the benefits of working from home.

September 28, 2018 at 12:36 pm #28803Rich MillichParticipantI may want to somehow get from Downtown to Ross Park by bus sometime during 10/5. I’ll check my bus schedule to find out whether that’s reasonable. I want that special fig! And PaB cups!
September 28, 2018 at 10:38 pm #28807PaulaParticipantSoft opening is October 5th. But get ready! Grand opening is Friday 26th, Saturday 27th, Sunday 28th! I’m sure you’ll see info soon, so all I can say is IT’S GOING TO BE AWESOME. YOU’LL WANT TO BE THERE!
September 28, 2018 at 10:41 pm #28808PaulaParticipant@philmatt24 Also, mall website has incorrect info. We need to let them know. I think it says October the 1st.
September 30, 2018 at 1:49 pm #28835Greg SchubertParticipantBesides buying “all the things,” are there LUG goals for next Friday or the grand opening dates? Will there be a display case for LUG MOC’s like other stores have? Can a calendar of LUG events be distributed inside or outside the store?
September 30, 2018 at 6:14 pm #28840Matt RedfieldKeymasterAwesome; thanks for the updated info, Paula! I’ve posted on that FB thread so people don’t get confused.
Greg’s thoughts and questions are intriguing, for sure. But I have no answers.
September 30, 2018 at 8:31 pm #28844Greg SchubertParticipantGreg’s thoughts
I am currently trying to arrange a LEGO display setup at a local polling station for the first Tuesday in November. If it gets approved, it would be nice to get the word out.
October 1, 2018 at 2:04 pm #28849Benjamin C GoodParticipant>> I just realized that October 5 is NEXT FRIDAY! Time flies.
Time flies? I’m pretty sure you mean ‘This is taking sooooooooooooo looooooooooooong, why isn’t the Lego store open yet? I want a Lego store noooooooooooooooooooow.’
Right now the Ross Park Mall site sez:
“This store is expected to open as of 10/6/2018” which does not necessarily contradict an October 5 opening. The lego.com page just says “Opening in October”. So I plan to show up sometime on Friday with my giant bag of PaB cups. I don’t know if there’s a particular time everybody’s thinking of showing up to make it a group thing. I will not be in town for the grand opening at the end of the month.
Btw, Rachel apparently has been going to the Woodfield store a lot and making friends, cause she’s now on a first-name basis with the manager of the store. I’ve been keeping her updated on this thread, and so she keeps hearing Paula’s name. She told me that based on her conversations at Woodfield, those online surveys that come with your receipt really do make a difference for the employees, so she said if everybody really does like Paula, we should fill them out ‘every single time’.
October 1, 2018 at 2:28 pm #28852PeteParticipantI’m willing to put money down on Ben being the first person banned from the Pittsburgh Lego Store.
October 1, 2018 at 2:52 pm #28856JoshKeymasterOctober 1, 2018 at 6:14 pm #28861PaulaParticipantI sent a message to Tim’s contact at LEGO but she has not replied yet, about partnering with the lug on grand opening weekend. I promise to keep up on it.
We are having a master builder on site grand opening weekend, as well as other surprises!
When I hear more, I’ll let you know!
By the way. It is A LOT of work to get a LEGO store up and running! But it’s BEAUTIFUL!!!October 2, 2018 at 12:26 pm #28867Jim RolfeParticipantI will be there this Friday, 10/5. Probably not until 9:30-ish if anyone wants to join me. Not even sure when the “official” opening time is; 9? 10? It really doesn’t matter but oh the excitement!
I plan to be there 10/26 also for the first day of grand opening. I will probably be a little more flexible on this one to be there earlier if anyone wants to go wait and be the line!

Bob and Tim, if one of you is gonna be there on Friday, that would be a good time for me to pass on trees to you for Pumpkin Trolley, if you still want them. @timf @rcgrier3406
October 2, 2018 at 2:48 pm #28871Will McDineParticipantI plan on being there for when the doors open. Ben, if you are planning on doing the same, you could bring by red 1×8 tiles from the q3 parts auction.

@bengood921, we would like trees!! Let me know what time frame you’re going to be at the LEGO store on Friday, and I’ll make sure to get over there when you’re there to pick them up. Thanks!!October 3, 2018 at 5:53 pm #28902TimModeratorI don’t think I will be able to make it on Friday. I will probably have to wait until later next week. But I am very much looking forward to seeing the Store (and not driving 2 hours to do so).
October 4, 2018 at 4:48 am #28912Greg SchubertParticipantWhat about LUG business cards to take to the store openings in the event that current LUG members meet someone interested in the LUG?
What about printing a LUG calendar of events for this Fall? It could be a small calendar that is handed out, or a large calendar that people can photograph and that is displayed at LUG events.
October 4, 2018 at 8:50 pm #28926Will McDineParticipantAnyone else planning to get there for when the Mall opens tomorrow?
October 4, 2018 at 9:17 pm #28930Skipper MikeParticipantOf course the Soft Open is the same day that I have to get to the airport immediately after work.
October 4, 2018 at 10:14 pm #28932Jim RolfeParticipantAnyone else planning to get there for when the Mall opens tomorrow?
I’ll be there between 9:30-10.
