The stonework on the foundation is quite nice too
March 16, 2019 at 5:39 am #30817Greg SchubertParticipantgreat texture with all those tiles not pressed all the way down
You’ve zeroed in on the main reason I wanted to build a barn, having a surplus of 1×8 red tiles. Of course, I found that most real barns are DARK red. People aren’t positive why this became the standard color, but the farmer’s almanac website suggested that originally the pigment came from iron oxides (rust) and served as a deterrent to rotting the wood. Gradually it became less about practicality and more about tradition.

Thanks, that part took a while, I still have more to learn about making stone walls. 🙂
March 16, 2019 at 8:27 am #30818TimModeratorThe current stone aesthetic among Castle builders is to use lots of snot to give depth to the walls. 1×1 plates, 1×1 rounds, and 1×1 tiles all work well to create depth.
I also really like your barn. The stonework and the offset tiles give it a very real feel. Dark red would look awesome.

Good point, that is one approach I did not consider this time.
March 16, 2019 at 12:16 pm #30824Matt RedfieldKeymasterup from the grave, this thread arose!
I somehow never knew this thread existed, so…
May 6, 2019 at 9:34 am #31179Jason MiddaughParticipantThat barn is really great. Love the winter theme… Nice job Greg.
May 6, 2019 at 7:00 pm #31187Greg SchubertParticipantFor the North Pole school …
I made four classrooms: a present wrapping class, a baking class, a woodshop class and a sewing class.
May 6, 2019 at 7:02 pm #31188Greg SchubertParticipantAnyway, here is a photo of the school front using the old camera in very low light.

I am using a different camera than usual and apparently the original photos on the new camera are 8M and the site accepts something like 300k.
What I’ve decided to do is to upload the photos to Flickr and then post a link: https://www.flickr.com/photos/41724262@N07/?
May 7, 2019 at 9:19 pm #31197Jason MiddaughParticipantDude! Did you make all of those on the Flickr page? Unbelievable.

A bunch of those photos were from Brickfair in Virginia a few years ago, but most were not my creations, just photos that I took.
May 8, 2019 at 7:45 am #31207Jason MiddaughParticipantThe winter stuff is absolutely amazing. Maybe I will have to try and make it to Brickfair too this year!

This was actually created a few months prior to the recent tragedy.

Did yours catch on fire too?
May 31, 2019 at 4:09 pm #31441Jason MiddaughParticipantIt did not, but I cleverly made it completely from fire-resistant materials (or maybe that was just a coincidence). We’ll see what happens if I ever have to renovate it.
May 31, 2019 at 5:07 pm #31443Greg SchubertParticipantI took these photos the day after it happened. 🙁

March 17, 2022 at 4:20 pm #43637Marcella SpearParticipantI am just getting into building my own MOC’s and this is my tiny little neighborhood that I built. I am horrible with roofs. I bought two books to learn more. Any tips are welcome!

I really like the balcony on the blue building. I also really like the multi brown log profile roof-from the camera angle I can’t tell, is it a garage or shed?
