Most of you are aware of the exclusive minifig options.
I just saw this link: http://toysnbricks.com/barbaras-cereal-snacks-2014-lego-movie-promotion/
Buy cereal, get movie coupon! Also a sweepstakes. Find Benny on the Barbara’s site, or go here:
February 9, 2014 at 10:56 pm #5178Matt RedfieldKeymasterStride Rite apparently has a sweepstakes, too:

Just like…whatever Stride Rite is…on Facebook…
February 27, 2014 at 5:51 pm #5342TimModeratorI heard on the radio today that The Lego Movie was #1 at the box office for the third week in a row with a box office take of about $31 million this past weekend. According to http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=lego.htm, as of yesterday (February 26), The Lego Movie has taken in a jaw-dropping $187,000,000+ in the U.S, plus another $92,500,000 internationally, for a grand total of almost $280,000,000. WOW – EVERYTHING IS AWESOME! I wonder what percentage Lego gets from the movie?
Also, I was in San Diego this past weekend and was able to get up to Legoland California where they had the actual Basement movie set from The Lego Movie on display. I’ve uploaded some pictures of it in my Flickr stream here – http://www.flickr.com/photos/41914153@N03/. This included all of the dioramas that are only shown for a few moments (in addition to the main “Town”). The neatest thing was the Galaxy Explorer hanging in the Space diorama (although the thought that it is put together with kragle makes me very sad).

February 28, 2014 at 2:44 pm #5352JoshKeymasterawesome, Tim. Thanks!
February 28, 2014 at 7:15 pm #5363Matt RedfieldKeymasterand was able to get up to Legoland California
I really, really wish I could’ve made that happen when I was in LA last week. Unfortunately, by the time it became clear that I’d have Sunday to myself to explore (as opposed to exploring with a colleague, whose interest in a 90-minute drive and dropping $90 on admission may not have matched mine), it was a bit late in the game to make it happen… I basically would have had two or three hours in the park, tops; it seemed like too much hassle for not enough time in LEGOLAND.
Good job making it work, Tim; if/when I’m out that way again, I’ll definitely block off a full day to go!
March 1, 2014 at 4:43 am #5364Greg SchubertParticipantYears ago I read in the bricklink forum that you can get a free two hour pass to go into LEGOLAND just to go shopping.

I called and asked about that before going. There is no free pass just for shopping. You can buy a 2 hour pass for the last two hours of the day they are open for 1/2 price. I had considered that but I am glad I went ahead and paid for the full day. I spent almost 1 1/2 hours just in MiniLand so 2 hours total would have been very rushed. Overall, I spent 4+ hours at the park and felt like I saw everything and was not rushed at all (being by myself was very efficient as I was able to move around very quickly – as opposed to having three kids in tow). They did offer a 5% discount on admission and all purchases for VIP cardholders (but strangely no points for either admission or purchases). They also had 10% off admission for AAA members, so that saved me $8.30 (off an $83 adult admission). One neat shopping note; anything you buy you can have them sent it to the front gate to be held until the end of the day. That avoids having to lug around large bags of purchases. There is no extra charge for this service and it made shopping easier (exactly the point – removing a barrier to purchasing). At the end of the day, I just went to the pickup counter, got my purchases, and left. Similar parks like Disney probably offer similar services, I just can’t remember.
I have a lot more pictures from Legoland California that I will upload to my Flickr account (I’ll post back here when I have done that).
March 1, 2014 at 8:20 pm #5366Greg SchubertParticipantTim, you know how Disney was considering building a theme park out by some historic VA battlefields? There are new rumblings that a new LEGOLAND is being considered for Stafford County, VA.

“LEGOLAND Florida Announces One-Hour Pass for Shoppers at Park Stores”
http://news.lugnet.com/mediawatch/?n=2985March 1, 2014 at 8:52 pm #5370TimModeratorInteresting that Florida has a one hour shopping pass and California does not. Also interesting about Stafford County. A few years ago, they freaked out over a proposed Wal-Mart because it could have been seen from sections of the Chancellorsville National Battlefield.
July 27, 2014 at 6:17 pm #6971Greg SchubertParticipantSo I watched the LEGO movie twice this past week and although I figure out who Lord business was the first time I saw the movie, I never realized until today, when I was going through bricklink images, how painfully obvious it is that he represents a dress tie. This finally explains the stupid red coffee mugs on his head!
I often tell my students that my motto is, “I may not be fast, but I AM slow.”

July 28, 2014 at 9:13 am #6976David H DonleyParticipantNeither did I. Huh.
July 28, 2014 at 9:42 am #6977Greg SchubertParticipantOf course the TV show “Where’s my pants?” is probably making fun of the father who is probably often saying “Honey, where’s my pants?”
Here is one more tidbit: in the movie there is a sort of a jail called the “brain trust” which symbolizes the father’s minifig display case. The display appears for just a second in the background during the movie. My 14 year old noticed this and made the connection. 🙂
