KeymasterI’ve heard some comments regarding how inflated our reported member numbers are. since sending the email about us using LEDs primarily, about 11 hours ago, over 200 people have viewed that email out of the +600 people that get the newsletter. That’s pretty impressive, I think. We average over 200 people viewing the newsletter each month too. I’m very OK with sticking with we have hundreds of members in the pittsburgh area.

KeymasterTear down started at 6
I left the convention center with a packed truck at 7:30.
I left my house with an empty uhaul at 9p.Record breaking pace!
I love the new big commercial cart. No one needed to carry any tables to the truck.
Lots of hands helping to tear down the modular train sections. Even without any prior knowledge of the train modules!
Such an awesome event and one of the things I love this event because we all get to interact with one another for such long periods over the course of so many days.
Anything else you’d have marked down as lessons learned? Things that worked well or opportunities to improve?
I don’t think we need to adjust much, if at all, for the thief kid- the risk of that occurring again is so low given his unique circumstances.

KeymasterI signed up for tomorrow to help out. I’m hoping someone will be joining me for the late shift on Saturday!
I’m arranging my plans to be there. It will be the st Patrick’s day parade, and John singer will attest to the flood of people as a result. The more the merrier for Saturday, for sure.

Keymaster@playingwithechoes – did you have a battery tester there? There were 2 – I marked one as the lug’s and one as mine…but I just found another on my desk, now I’m wondering if this was an extra I bought or you had an identical one, possibly. Maybe @gabevistica? It’s possible I did buy another for my airbnb and I have forgotten to take it up there.

KeymasterHere’s a map I drew for Greg on where I find street parking.
I also recommend doing the pull off under the convention center, putting on your flashers and locking your car while you drop off a box to the display. Then, you can go park at the stadium and take the free shuttle back and submit a reimbursement for the $8 parking, with receipt.
All you have to do to get into the show is go to the vendor booth and tell them you’re with steel city lug and they’ll take care of the pass for you with a hand stamp.

KeymasterHere is a lineup of mechs that I built recently:
lots of nice parts usage (NPU) and I’m picking up on some themes with the color blocking! I can see some life of mars in the back there.
I’m glad to see you share your work as you get started back in the hobby! Keep them coming and hope to see you at a display event or meeting soon!

Keymasterno pressure, just curious, did the timelapse footage work out?
March 4, 2025 at 10:05 pm #63468Josh
KeymasterThanks for making today go so smoothly! It shows how much planning ahead of time can really open us up to enjoying our time together. The display is just about public ready and it only took a few hours to get us there with everyone pitching in.
make sure your shifts are accurate if you do end up going in for set up on wednesday or tuesday.
Still a few shifts that could use a few people to cover too. if you’re available, come and hang out. It should be easy to staff, especially with so many people who are displaying items.
To rehash the procedure for entrance when the event opens, there will be a ‘vendor booth’ that will have a Steel City LUG folder with a bunch of tickets for us. They’ll pull out a ticket and give you a stamp that you can use for the rest of your time. If you can minimize the number of tickets you use, by flashing your stamped hand, especially at the beginning days of the event, that would be appreciated.

KeymasterWe’d need 8-10. I’m not sure how many we have extra that I packed. Maybe 2. It’s just a connector for the legs to attach to. Legs are 2” pvc pipe.

KeymasterYour friend has shared a link to a Home Depot product they think you would be interested in seeing.

KeymasterYou’re welcome to try to push the boundary, but 1p was what was communicated. I can ask again in person tomorrow, if I remember.
The “install as needed” shift was set up for Wed through Thursday, but it only shows as Wednesday since that is the start…a flaw in the system….
I also took some time to reduce the mega tables from 88lbs a piece to 64lbs. I forgot that I need to get more 2” pvc couplers for the legs though. If anyone wants to swing by Home Depot on the way at 6am, feel free. I might if I remember. I assume no one has any at home to bring. I have my drill and screws to attach them if we get them.

KeymasterDoesn’t have to be democratic entirely. Unless we’re blocking out ideas into a year, it’s really just a matter of someone having and idea and leading the judging/criteria in the spirit of getting people involved and challenged reasonably.
Work for the people, not forcing people to work for themselves, essentially:)
