@greg, here’s what the layout looked like in 2022, the last time we did this event. U-shaped with double tables on 3 sides.

We’ve never done MILS plates for this event (it’s only 2 hours long), plus as far as I know all of the MILS stuff is down at the Trolley Museum anyway. We’ve always just run track on the tablecloths. @timf is bringing his dark green tablecloths again, and just put a white sheet down over top of that in the one area you can see in the photos. If you have white sheets or tablecloths you should bring them if that’s what you want for your area.

We will have stanchions this year. I’m going down to Josh’s to pick them up tomorrow (11/15). Plan is to string lights on the stanchion belts.

@mrmain18, here’s a cross section of the LUG MILS base with the ballasted track on top.

This is looking great Michael!! Even without the mechanism working it would still be an impressive build!! Can’t wait to see it in action!!

I also agree that leaving the technic holes exposed gives it a more “industrial” look. Not quite “riveted” construction, but it has that “old school” look and feel!!

I’ll bring my Christmas Farmhouse MOC (4 baseplates, 2×2 pattern) for sure. I can bring other non-Christmas stuff to help fill out table space if need be.

@joshhall sent me some pictures from the first weekend of this event, which I’ve added to the Gallery along with the one from @argonvesher above. To view them, click on the Gallery link at the top right corner of any page, and open the “2024-10 Fall Trolley” folder.

Any more pics, send them my way or post them here and I’ll add them to the Gallery!

Finished or unfinished, it’s still a basement! It’s considerate of you to reach out and ask, since obviously someone brought it up, but I personally haven’t noticed any real issues in all the years I’ve been coming down there. All of us that own homes have occasional “visitors” (a couple of weeks ago I found a 12″ garden snake in my finished family room!), but that doesn’t mean it’s time to retreat to higher ground or call in the “Bugbusters”!! Thanks again for opening your home to us and providing the LUG with space to store all of our “stuff”!

@greg and I did some swap-outs and shifting around this afternoon. Greg added his Dia de los Muertos MOC, and I modified the HP Quidditch Pitch to the “wands up” tribute to Maggie Smith (Professor McGonagall) per @timf’s suggestion. To make room, we shifted a few things around, and Greg pulled his “Breaching Whale” MOC.

Some pics are below, and I’ll be adding them to the Gallery folder. Beth was appreciative and complimentary on how easy we are to work with compared to some others that use these display cases. She also said that she would have her social media person take new pics and share them on their social media platforms.

@timf, that’s an outstanding idea!! I hadn’t heard that fans did that down at Universal over the weekend. Certainly appropriate!! Thanks!!!

I’m OK with leaving it. I might add a McGonagall mini-fig overlooking the Quiddich match in honor of Maggie Smith’s passing if I can come up with a way to do it tastefully. Any suggestions are welcome!

Pictures from this event have been uploaded to the Gallery, including pics of some of the winners from the LEGO Free Build competition that was sponsored by the festival organizers. There were 21 entries, all between the ages of 7 and 17.

To view them, click on the Gallery link at the top right corner of any page, and then click on the “2024-09 Penn Township Fall Festival” album.

Couple more pics from Saturday at this event, primarily focused on some of the more creative kids builds. We had several who stayed with us and were diligently working and then reworking their builds for up to an hour!!

Couple of brief thunderstorms that rolled through during the afternoon, but we weathered the rain OK without too many issues. Things got busy after the storms passed through and in anticipation of the fireworks!

We’re there again today from noon until 5 pm. If you want to come out and help us judge the LEGO Building Contest, that’s scheduled for 3 pm!!

Some pics from set-up at the Penn Township Fall Festival last night. Pretty simple set-up, 10’x10′ open sided tent with 2 tables, one for play brick building and one for a couple of displays and a place to put the stuff that the kids build.

The festival was pretty well attended last night. Traffic at our booth was mixed, with some busy times and some slow periods. I didn’t remember to take any pics of the kids builds last night, but I’ll get some today.

We’re there again today (Saturday) from noon until 9:30 pm (with Zambelli Fireworks tonight), and again on Sunday from noon until 5 pm. Lots going on at the festival, with carnival rides, craft booths and tons of food options so if you’re in the area stop by and say Hi!!

Subbed and signed up! As Tim said this is an easy event and would be a good one for any new members who want to “dip their toe in the display waters”!!

Note to @timf, we now have the LUG stanchions that we should use instead of having to “string the lights” like we have in the past!

With that much 9v track, it makes me wonder if she has a speed controller, power supply and power contact connecting wires but doesn’t realize what they’re for. The LUG has currently enough working speed controllers and power supplies, but we don’t have any 9v power contact connecting wires that work (all of the ones we’ve used at shows recently belong to members and not the LUG). These are the ones that usually come with frayed wire insulation, are hard to find and can go for $30-$40 when you do find them (usually in Europe).

Maybe offer $125 because of the distance we’d have to travel and be willing to go to $150 if she has the other stuff as long as they’re not trashed. Akron is about 100 miles from me, and I’d be willing to make the drive if the LUG is interested in these.

@playingwithechoes, I looked thru mine, and unfortunately pretty much all of the overview photos were taken before we added the trains, and in some cases with blank spaces before all of the MOC’s were installed!

Here’s a couple from CSC Locomotion Weekend 2024, but I’m not sure it’s what you’re looking for.

Additional pics from last night’s set-up have been uploaded to the Gallery. To view them, click on the “Gallery” tab at the top right corner of any page, and then click on the “2024-09 Shaler Library” folder.

    @jrosie
, once you’ve added your build to the display today, please take an overall shot like this one and a close-up of your MOC so I can add them to this Gallery folder. Thanks!!

I’ve uploaded videos of the SMASH Challenge!! Just click on the photo below to view them, and by all means TURN UP THE SOUND to get the full experience!!

    1st Place – Kristen W.
    2nd Place – Adam’s Daughter
    3rd Place – Marcella
    Honorable Mention – Jonny W.

We did have a fifth entry from Dan W., but unfortunately it suffered a catastrophic failure during pre-launch preparations and no one caught that on video!!

@watchwmarcella, everything’s out and here’s a shot at what the display case looked like when we left so you can see what kind of space is left to fill. @greg added his Nightmare before Christmas moon and moved one of Krista’s small buildings in front of it, and also added the pumpkin tissue box. I didn’t add anything this time. From the other thread, it looks like @kacierno was there after we left and added a few things as well.

Here’s what I’m planning to bring for this display. It’s 2 baseplates wide by about 15″ tall. Looking at the pictures from last year, I know it will at least fit on the top shelf, if not any of them.

I’m sure I can come up with something to add. Looking at what’s on my shelves, there’s a Quidditch Pitch that hasn’t been out on display for a while!!
