Ok… here is my attempt at the Free With Purchase proposal for LEGO Ideas… Not as whimsical as the reindeer stable for sure, but my dreams are rooted in smoked meat apparently. I actually originally designed the smoker for a friend who was a partner in a BBQ company. Just designed the little SUV last week, but I like how it turned out. Maybe not a winner, but not too bad for 208 pieces.

I also have not really participated in the LEGO Ideas contests in the past, but I have been working on something for this one. I have it built in real bricks, and am just working on the Stud.i.o stuff now… a bit of a pain, since I have to disassemble to figure out how I did it. Once I have it done I can share.
November 13, 2023 at 5:01 pm #55761Jason MiddaughParticipantSo a few weeks ago, I received a call from Cleveland… ignore. However, they left a message, and it was the Greater Cleveland Film Commission who wanted to talk to me about displaying for their 40th anniversary of A Christmas Story event which was this past weekend. It was pretty crazy but we got to meet all of the cast and even gave each of them a little LEGO gift (check out Ralphie with his!) Anyway, I was interviewed by Cleveland Beat (9:45 into the video)… quality is not great, but right after me is Schwartz from the movie (RD Robb) who was set up next to us. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gEFbeHiEg6k

LEGO Ideas is just a tough process all around and just does not have very good odds of success. This is the second time that we have been in the review process, and it is probably my last attempt. We still did get a lot of great experiences out of it, and thanks to all that have helped to support our little endeavor.
July 11, 2022 at 5:44 pm #45626Jason MiddaughParticipantThank you my friend. I know that it is a bit of a long shot, but regardless of the outcome I have appreciated the experience and all of the support. Thank you again!
March 9, 2022 at 8:19 pm #43396Jason MiddaughParticipantI got two mentions in BrickNerd: https://bricknerd.com/home/celebrating-women-afols-for-international-womens-day-3-8-22
Congrats Krista! That is really awesome!
February 9, 2022 at 7:01 am #42884Jason MiddaughParticipantI built another version of the Parker family’s house from A Christmas Story. It is edible, so please keep your multiples of 25 gnawing rodents away from it.
That is really cool!!! Now that color is perfect for that!
January 28, 2022 at 7:18 pm #42589Jason MiddaughParticipantAwesome job Will!!! Congrats and let me know if you have any questions about the process. I am happy to share anything that I know. LEGO Ideas is hard but it can be a lot of fun. Looks like you are off to a pretty good start on day 1.
January 25, 2022 at 8:05 am #42500Jason MiddaughParticipantLol! You would be surprised. All you need is a bunny suit minifig and it will click instantly 🙂
January 24, 2022 at 10:09 pm #42496Jason MiddaughParticipantLooking awesome! I originally used yellow because I really didn’t even know how to procure the other colors at that point. The real color is almost a dark mustard color… not sure if LEGO makes that.
January 10, 2022 at 10:45 pm #42301Jason MiddaughParticipantThanks so much! Now comes the hard part… waiting.
Not sure if you saw it, but my absolute favorite story that was done was from WTAE in Pittsburgh:

We can hardly believe it. Just hit that magic number last night. Thanks so much to the SteelCity LUG for all of the support! Most of the bricks in the prototype were purchased through the LUGBULK!
November 3, 2021 at 8:43 am #41631Jason MiddaughParticipantlol… my mom actually sent me that article without reading it last night. We were both surprised to learn that we got a mention! Too bad that they didn’t include the LEGO site link since it has been shared over 2K times. Oh well… trying to line up some media coverage this holiday season and there will be a story on WTAE later this month, so be sure to look for it!
September 14, 2021 at 2:14 pm #40914Jason MiddaughParticipantThought you folks might enjoy this… I had a lot more to say about the LUG and the Brick Fest event that was omitted, but it did get a mention lol…
September 14, 2021 at 12:29 pm #40899Jason MiddaughParticipantDid Brickfest tickets actually cost $35?!?
https://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/tix/d/monroeville-lego-brickfest/7378494109.html
Seems like the implication from this listing is that they cost more than $35!
September 13, 2021 at 10:11 am #40852Jason MiddaughParticipantI am glad that I get to write this in an email because I have no voice left. Just wanted to say that it was great seeing/meeting you all at the convention, and thanks to all that made it happen. Even though I get to interact in person so few times with everyone, it has been great when I have had the chance. Nice job to all who displayed, and it really seemed like the crowd enjoyed the builds. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to display our projects as well. Seeing how people react and get so excited is really what makes it all worth it!
September 9, 2021 at 7:25 pm #40792Jason MiddaughParticipantI was just contacted by an Indiana PA radio station to do an interview. Not sure how much time I will have, but I plan to talk a little about the LUG and the event this weekend. It is a little far from the event, but perhaps can bring some more awareness.
Btw, got your lug brick badge packed up and ready to take to you Saturday. Got it from last time you displayed.
As for everyone else, Tommy (brickengraver) said he was swamped with orders and large volume orders and couldn’t guarantee he’d be able to get badges delivered by this Saturday, when I put in the order after our q3 meeting. He was going to try, but since I haven’t been invoiced yet, I’m doubtful.
Great! Thank you. Looking forward to the event and seeing everyone.

September 8, 2021 at 5:27 pm #40758Jason MiddaughParticipantWas there a final verdict on whether we can setup until 7pm on Friday? I probably won’t get into town until after 5, so I hope so.
September 2, 2021 at 8:01 am #40599Jason MiddaughParticipantYes! I certainly am. I will have all of the A Christmas Story builds along with the It’s A Wonderful Life ones and a couple of others.
September 2, 2021 at 7:02 am #40596Jason MiddaughParticipantIt will be just my daughter and me, so would need passes for the two of us. Thanks!
August 24, 2021 at 2:04 pm #40467Jason MiddaughParticipantDefinitely getting excited about the event next month. I reached out to the Jimmy Stewart museum, and they were super excited about the It’s a Wonderful LEGO Life project, so my daughter Jane and I will be stopping there (Indiana PA) before setting up for Brick Fest Friday night. They also commissioned me to build them the set (I am donating the labor, but they are buying the bricks), so they will have a copy of our proposal at the museum on permanent display too! I will try and gen up a little media attention and mention the LUG, but not sure if I will have success. I will also bring down my A Christmas Story models for Brick Fest as well as a couple of other builds. See you all in a few weeks!
August 15, 2021 at 1:43 pm #40355Jason MiddaughParticipantWe will be driving down on Friday, actually hoping to make a quick stop at the Jimmy Stewart Museum, and then could probably get to the Convention Center to setup around 5. We are going to stay at the Doubletree, which I think is a attached or very close.
August 13, 2021 at 6:17 pm #40343Jason MiddaughParticipantI talked to the family (after @Krista K pinged me) and we were thinking that this would be a lot of fun to drive down and display for the weekend (it has been so long since we have been able to do that!) I have met some of you in the past but I am looking forward to meeting more folks in the LUG as well! Our latest LEGO Ideas project is “It’s A Wonderful Life” and with Jimmy Stewart being from Indiana PA, I suppose it has a local tie. This year is the 75th anniversary of the movie too. We have some other stuff as well and could easily fill 2 tables, but I can definitely scale it to whatever size makes sense for the group. Just let me know.
December 11, 2020 at 7:00 pm #37849Jason MiddaughParticipantRight out of Seneca Falls, NY (the inspiration for Bedford Falls), which is 10 miles from my home town!! You’ve got my vote!! I’m amazed at how much detail you were able to cram into the house!! Best of luck on this one!!
It is a small world! Thanks so much. You will have to tell all of home town folks to vote too :)… We have copies of the prototypes in the movie museum in Seneca Falls, so if you are back in town you will have to stop in and check them out. Just did a couple of interviews with some news orgs over the past couple of days, so maybe it will get a little push once those come out. LEGO Ideas is a long game though… Thanks again.
