The camera in my iPhone 10 works fine for my purposes. My issue is a lighting issue. I get too many shadows and glare from my current setup.
The article that David posted looks like it should help me out! A light box! cool.
Thanks!

Shrimp Boat
Shrimp Shack
Newbury juice stand
Bus
GraveyardThoughts on the app:
Meh. Maybe ok for kids who just got a smartphone or similar device. I don’t see an angle where there would be long-lasting appeal.Design:
Cool colors and stories are present in the builds! The ghosty aspects are fun. I had several Hidden Side sets on display at a Halloween party last year. They were very much admired!MOC-ability:
I’m probably too much of a noob to comment on this, BUT
I suspect that your initial thought about harvesting parts from these sets is accurate (i.e. it would be an expensive route)May 3, 2020 at 9:16 pm #36305Zack MParticipant“I never have any. Ideas.”

If I open or have opened a set, it’s staying in the collection. If I’m not displaying a set (or planning to), I’ll let my daughter play with it. Once she’s done, I’ll part down everything for my personal part library.
Furthermore, I suspect that the used market is taking a hit due to the pandemic. Also, thrift and re-use stores are not currently taking donations. It’s probably a tough time to get rid of used Lego.
Matt – Thanks for the info about eBay vs. Bricklink. I may let go of some of the new/sealed sets.
May 2, 2020 at 6:45 pm #36289Zack MParticipantI’m thinking that I should just hold on to the sets that I have which are used. I don’t have any classic stuff from my childhood. Everything I own is circa 2014 or later (mostly 2017-2020). Eventually, I’ll let my kid play with the bigger sets (which means they will be picked apart and probably never 100% complete again). My kid’s deconstructive habits with Lego do provide me with lots of raw materials for MOCs and creative projects.
I have some backlog of unopened sets. It seems to be much simpler to sell these items on bricklink as they are new and sealed. Some of the Lego store promo sets go for $25 or more on bricklink. That might be a good way to offset the cost of this hobby.

Adam – I sent you a message about what’s going up for sale.
December 6, 2018 at 8:23 pm #29729Zack MParticipantFor you Costco members:

lego creator cruising adventures 31083 creator 3 in 1 – $39.99 (33% off)

lego friends drifting diner 41349 – $22.99 (23% off)The Star Wars combo pack seems to be selling the fastest. Quite a few left of the other sets as of this afternoon.
Happy deal hunting!
January 26, 2018 at 8:41 am #25855Zack MParticipantThanks for the advice and feedback! I’ll do some research regarding the selling of used sets. It would be fun to meet some LUG members in person. Maybe I’ll post some sets for sale on this site soon. I promise good prices!
I would like to attend a LUG meeting sometime. My work schedule may get in the way of this, however. I’m unable to attend the AFOL day on Feb 3rd :(.
Happy Building!
