I found a plexiglass display case in which to organize minifigs. It has seven shelves, each shelf is over 8 studs deep and 72 studs wide. I thought that I should cover each shelf with studs so that I can stand the figs securely. How can I cover 8×72 shelves with LEGO studs at the lowest cost? The color does not matter, but I don’t want to do a lot of extra work, like slicing 48×48 baseplates into 8x strips.
Twelve 6×8 plates per shelf would do the trick. Dark tan seems to be the best price on Bricklink at around $0.15 per plate.
Nine 8×8 plates per shelf would also work. Dark tan seems to be the best price here as well at around $0.18 per plate.
I would need 63 plates that are 8×8. The lowest price with that quantity is 0.33 and they are in Germany. Am I looking at the wrong part?
If color doesn’t matter, I’m pretty sure the LUG has a lot of 8×6 plates in its supply, at least it did at one time.
Did you actually buy all those dark blue wedges? I would not guess that a piece like that would be so cheap. I’m definitely a proponent of finding pieces on BrickLink that are plentiful and cheap cause nobody else wants them, and have already benefitted from them (see also: Ben’s orange castle, Ben’s orange GBC).
The total cost for the minifig organizer case with mirrored back was about $5.55 in parts plus another $6 in shipping. (I got the shelves on trash day for free.)

Yes and he still has 300 more dark blue wedges, which could make a river covering an area equal to nine 32×32 baseplates for a total of thirteen bucks!

I’d probably just use the parts as cheap internal support. I’ve been surprised at how fast I can plow through plates, almost as fast as bricks. There’s a lot of yellow plate inside that observation platform.
I’ve ordered from Plastic Bricks Direct before and they’re on my short list to order from again soon. I’ll have to wait til next month though, I already made one largeish BrickLink order this month.

No, only one person I know it masterful enough to pull that off. But its not really for show, its more for organization. Other than elves, I don’t have many CMF’s. In fact most of my figs are from the previous millenium, acquired from an archaic selling format known as the “flea market.”
