Hello everyone! So excited that I found out about Steel City LUG! I live in Morgantown, WV, and there isn’t a group like this in our area. I have loved Legos since I was a little kid, and that has passed down to my 12 yr old son. He has such a passion and creative eye for Legos, that I needed to find something that could help me help him expand on his passion. He creates so many different things on his own that I’m always amazed at his creativity. I’m hoping that the weather holds out for us to travel up to Ross Park Mall on the 24th to enjoy the event there! I would love some extra info on what to expect at that event! Thank you all for allowing us to be a part and I look forward to seeing some of you at an event in the near future! Blessings!
Welcome, Tom, we look forward to seeing you there! The display area will be on the main/lower level near the food court, so wherever you park, just follow the signs for that once you get inside.
There will be plenty of original MOCs on display, but a decent number of regular and customized sets as well. Based on the folks I see signed up for Saturday, expect to see (among other things) spaceships, animals, a working crawler crane, Lego quilting (yes quilting!), and even a live build being streamed on Youtube! We’ll be hanging out in the middle of our display area, socializing with each other and engaging with the public, and occasionally running over to the Lego Store to brave the line.
Welcome Tom. It would be good for you to add a last name to your profile because we already have one Tom who is pretty active in the LUG. It would help with clarity.
LEGO Day at the Mall is going to be a cornucopia of displays ranging from LEGO sets to creations that were completely dreamt up and assembled by people in the LUG (LEGO User Group.) The group typically covers an area about the size of an hotel indoor swimming pool.
Of course the Ross Park Mall LEGO Store will be one stop you will want to make on your visit. If you are hoping to get anything LEGO in particular from the store during your trip, I recommend calling them in advance.
The purpose of the show is to put on a display, so there aren’t going to be “vendors” as there are at many LEGO events. But if you are looking for older sets or certain parts for your son to build with, many members have repositories of sets / parts in stock … someone might have things you’re looking for. However members don’t typically bring extra parts and sets to a show like this unless things are arranged in advance.
One more thing to keep in mind is that the LUG puts up a display at the Trolley Museum in Washington PA around Halloween and Christmas. That might be an easier location for you to connect with LUG members in the future.
