Coming out of our Q3 meeting, there was interest in learning more about who shares similar building interests, skills, and abilities within the group.
I’ve added some basic badge functionality to member profiles:

[]Choose badges that represent your favorite themes, interests, skills, and activities.
[]Add, remove, and reorder your selected badges.
[]See badges on your profile and in forum post author cards.
[]Browse the available badge collection and suggest new badge ideas.

For now, these are simply informational. They’re a quick way to show that you enjoy Classic Space, Castle, Pirates, MOCs, photography, inventory management, and plenty of other things.
We can also gamify the system a bit if people are interested—for example, giving certain badges specific meanings, goals, or recognition within the group. That part is still open for discussion.
For now, I was happy to add some basic functionality and see how people use it, if at all.
If you’d like the ability to help add, remove, or manage badges—or create new badge graphics—just let me know. I’d be happy to expand the system with help from anyone interested.

Neat! That’s a LOT of themes… Can the descriptions be visible when viewing others’ profiles? Some of them seem like duplicates or there’s some nuance between a couple (like Displaying vs Public Displays).

It did expose also another dark-mode bug, in the Badges tab of your own profile (viewing yourself, not a particular person) when looking at the list of additional badges you can add.

You forgot to include Pretend Space.

I’m not sure that Sorting & Organizing is going to be an adequate badge for Nancy. You might need to create a World Champion Triple Platinum Elite VIP Plus Sorting & Organizing badge just for her.

When I was done selecting badges, at the top, it said “12 of 30”. I did in fact select twelve badges, but I’m not sure what the “of 30” is referring to. It’s occurring to me just now that maybe we’re capped at 30 badges? (It took me a while to get there.) Cause there’s definitely way more than thirty choices. I went to Gabe’s profile and his says “18 of 30.”

I assume you put in the Time Cruisers badge so that we know which LUG members to avoid. (#justkidding #nocomparison)

@joshhall, how about “Microscale” as a theme?!

there’s a form at the bottom of the badges to make suggestions for new badges. Anyone is able to suggest new badges and I’ll get to it eventually, or I can give permission to anyone who is interested in managing badges. for icon suggestion, either a link to a graphic or a text describing it will do. I’ve just been putting prompts in chatgpt to generate the images. Some are BAD…but you should have seen what claude proposed. I was like, “create some icons based on lego themes” and it was all “and risk copyright infridgement? I’ll pass.”

there’s also a tag cloud that will highlight the most popular badges that people have selected.

Request for “Builder for Hire” as I am open to commissions around my specialties of trains and related nuclear science interests.

That was a fun list. I selected some that are more aspirational right now than real. Also @bengood921 first you made me laugh out loud with your comment about sorting. Then you made me cringe – because I did select Time Cruisers, only because I know for sure that one or more of my son’s old sets are Time Cruisers. I hope you’ll still be my friend.
