Here’s a place to put your flickr URL and get networked with all the other members who have an account there. Flickr is far superior to MOCpages, brickshelf, photobucket, and mostly everywhere else when it comes to getting yourself integrated online in the Lego community. A flickr account is free and they give you a terrabyte, a terrabyte of space to use! If you don’t have a flickr account then either…
a. you aren’t building enough MOCs!
or
b. you feel inadequate at photography.
If b. I would be more than happy to share methods and techniques for photography. You don’t need a ton of fancy gear or an uber camera. I want everyone in our circle of the hobby to feel capable of sharing anything they love Lego related with the rest of us. That said here’s mine
https://www.flickr.com/photos/zemata
and you can see my individual MOCs by clicking albums.August 17, 2014 at 5:46 pm #7351ZemataParticipantAlso one of flickr’s best utilities was the ability to place notes anywhere on a photo. Spot some NPU (nice part usage)? Place a square around it in the photo and add a note! Unfortunately yahoo has been mixing the site around but Josh has shown us a way to bring the feature back in this thread http://www.steelcitylug.com/forum/topic/how-to-get-notes-back-in-flickr/
August 17, 2014 at 8:53 pm #7356Matt RedfieldKeymasterGood call, Evan. Here’s mine:
August 18, 2014 at 12:27 pm #7359Benjamin C GoodParticipantI realized after I’d left Saturday that I should’ve brought this up, so I’m glad you posted this. Off the top of my head, I’m currently following Efran, Evan, Joe, Josh, Matt, Micah, Rich, and Tim. Which means I’m still missing people. I know Walker doesn’t use flickr. Also, does anybody know if Doug is on flickr? I don’t know how how much attention he’s paying to new threads these days.
My id there is Ben921 and my albums are here:

August 29, 2014 at 2:37 pm #7513Benjamin C GoodParticipantI’m going through David’s stream cause I hadn’t seen his stuff before. *** WARNING ***: There some extremely graphic poop pics in his photostream. Like, you’re just clicking through looking at adorable baby photos thinking ‘Aww he’s so little and cute’ and then all of a sudden AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! it’s diaper time and you can never unsee it. I’m still recovering. There’s good reasons why Uncle Benjie doesn’t have children of his own and this is about nine of them.
August 29, 2014 at 2:56 pm #7514David H DonleyParticipantLOL…baby pics are gone. I deleted the album, but evidently that just deletes the album and not everything in it. So, 2 newborn baby poop pictures are gone.
August 29, 2014 at 2:59 pm #7515Benjamin C GoodParticipantWhat? If I have to suffer, then so does everybody else. Although I’m guessing your son is old enough now to be glad that there’s no poop pics of him on the internet.
September 8, 2014 at 7:30 am #7677ZemataParticipantGlad this thread took off so well. Let me share two more tips for yinz.
First, remember to submit photos to our LUG group!
https://www.flickr.com/groups/steelcitylug/pool/
Submit anything you’d like to share but please try to keep things like, duplicates, excessive angles/alternatives of one thing, and generally boring photos to a minimum! This place is for the world to see our best in one group!Second I see a lot of you dont have many contacts added. I am nearly integrated with every person I’ve ever seen that does Lego on flickr. Every time someone follows me I click on them and if I see Lego I follow back. An excellent way to build up your community there is to check out http://www.brothers-brick.com/ every now and then and add people who get featured there. You’ll see some impressive things there nearly daily and its a wonderful way to get a constant stream of inspiration flowing to your flickr stream!
October 8, 2014 at 2:23 pm #8128JoeParticipantDoes anyone have some picture taking tips, the photo’s i’m taking just don’t come out like I would like them too.
October 8, 2014 at 4:00 pm #8130TimModeratorI’m no professional photographer but two things I always try to do is (1) have a great source of lighting (not necessarily the brightest light, which can sometimes give unwanted reflected glare, but the best light for the picture) and (2) have a “clean” background, which makes the MOC “pop” since there is nothing distracting in the background (clean doesn’t mean vacant, but just appropriate and complementary for the MOC being photographed).
October 8, 2014 at 4:08 pm #8131Benjamin C GoodParticipantHave you tried something like this?
http://www.instructables.com/id/Photography-Light-Box/
I’ve never done it. I know it’s popular for Legos and other stuff as well such as Ebay items. I know you can buy the boxes at places like Amazon for under $50, if I remember correctly. I’ve also seen plenty of flickr pics where people (and by ‘people’ I mean ‘Lego builders’) rig up their own using sheets and desk lamps. I don’t have time to research it now, but I know there’s a lot of options and as far as I can tell, it’s a very cost-effective way to take quality pics and the only limitation is fitting your item inside the box.
October 8, 2014 at 8:24 pm #8133JoshKeymasterI hate photography. I hate the time and care needed to take a fricking good photo. I have no desire to learn how to take a good picture. My technique is take the picture outside against a solid background then use GIMP (free photoshop) to cut everything else out of the picture. http://www.gimp.org/
October 8, 2014 at 10:16 pm #8135Micah BeidemanParticipantI do something similar to this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/legohaulic/11175540283/
Legohaulic has some great editing advice to, and if you look at his photo stream, you will find his pictures turn out extremely good 🙂- This reply was modified 10 years, 2 months ago by Micah Beideman.

April 12, 2017 at 5:51 am #21258Greg SchubertParticipantI cannot remember where we were having this discussion about mysterious photos showing up on the SteelCityLUG flickr feed, but I accidentally came across this http://thebrickblogger.com/2017/04/the-magic-of-lego-star-wars-photography/ by Connor Yoho. Maybe this has been posted before, sometimes I skim too quickly.
Anyway, I now recall Josh saying that the STAR WARS photography guy was a film maker and that maybe the Pittsburgh Dad intro idea should be revisted. @JoshHall, do you know if anyone else has tried to contact Connor?
