In 1912, my relative inventor Lyman Gilmore made a Batwing Monoplane that tested concepts and features that would eventually be commonplace in airplanes. Here is a model of it I built in Studio. He is best known for allegedly beating the Wright brothers with a 1902 flight in a steam powered plane, using inventions specific to aeronautic use but he was also a confirmed inventor with patents to his name. He opened the first commercial aerodrome in 1907 in Grass Valley, CA. Both planes burned up in a 1935 hangar fire, along with a ton of drawings so his 1902 flight remains at best unconfirmed by science and at worst, dismissed by most people; but if ever proven beyond a doubt, it would change aviation history and the views on steam tech.
