Q3 2024 Build Challenge

[Marcella Spear]

At Q4 today, it was discussed the idea of a SMASH challenge for Q3.

The idea – make a build that is designed to break a part – from a height, a fall, or a maybe a bat. I don’t think we are certified for explosions. 🙂

It is a long way off, but wanted to get everyone thinking about it.

Hmmm explosions… how do we get certified to do that?

[Dan]

Baking soda & vinegar explosions may be alright 🙂

[Josh]

oh jeez. I was not around for this decision….I’ll make sure we have the kiddie pools ready.

[Marcella Spear]

Ha ha – it was after the Discord was logged off. I may have been leading a chorus of SMASH! SMASH! SMASH! Possibly…

Kiddie Pools are a great idea.

Is the type of SMASH up to the builder or should we collect those that want to participate and do a random generator for a specific type of smash?

Bold of you to assume you need certified… Ill try my hardest to be there, the only thing I ask is that no one actually blows something up… The last thing I wanna do on a day off is search Josh’s yard for someone’s missing fingers

[Greg Schubert]

Was there any mention at the Q2 meeting of SMASH as the build challenge for Q3 2024?

[Marcella Spear]

Hi Greg – yes, we did confirm Q3 is the Smash / Drop challenge. I believe there are rumors of a Falcon flying!

[Jonathan Wagner]

More like falling…with style!

[David Bacon]

Does anyone have a high speed camera to record the smashing in Lego Masters style so that the effect of the smash can be analyzed for artistic style?

[Josh]

no high speed camera here, just slo-mo on the iphone.

anyone else have a solution?

Do we really have participants?

[Dan]

I’m planning to participate.

[Adam]

This looks like a fun build / drop. Suppose it doesn’t have to be a perfect build. By dropping a falcon it will then be a good reasons to give the record another go. Tim Brown dont get no ideas about a second falcon being dropped (heck it’s still under construction

[Will McDine]

I haven’t decided if I will participate or not yet. If I don’t I have no problems Judging.

[Bob Grier]

I’ve uploaded videos of the SMASH Challenge!! Just click on the photo below to view them, and by all means TURN UP THE SOUND to get the full experience!!

1st Place – Kristen W.
2nd Place – Adam’s Daughter
3rd Place – Marcella
Honorable Mention – Jonny W.

We did have a fifth entry from Dan W., but unfortunately it suffered a catastrophic failure during pre-launch preparations and no one caught that on video!!
