JoeParticipantI agree completely, I used the dome pieces trying to do something slightly different, but i’m not thinking its better. I really like the steps, shield, railing, and med blue door, but the rest of it’s just not screaming GREAT. I open to any suggestion you guys/ladies have…..

JoeParticipantStarted a new build very Market Street inspired, but not happy at all with how the first floor has turned out. Please give some input, I know it’s hard to fit a lot of detail in a 16 stud wide building but this one needs more don’t want to half a$$ the dark blue. Any input will be welcome, the second floor will be sand blue, just waiting on the parts

JoeParticipantI’ll mils it tonight and Ben has the inverted slopes…. So it should be “Show” ready tomorrow.
October 10, 2014 at 10:03 am #8187
JoeParticipantI dig it. It’s coming to BFL Cincy next week, right?
Sure you can take it…. Do you want it MILS’d and will you be at Josh’s tomorrow?

JoeParticipantI wasn’t able to take off Monday as planned, but I did find some time to work on it last night. I still need two inverted dark read slopes for the right second floor window, but beside that it’s done. I decided to keep the “Octan” sign, it’s my favorite part of the building (Lord Business even has his hands in the small grocers of Bricksburg).
I did try to clean up the door, by adding more brown and taking out the black. I think everyone was right about needing two windows on top, I tried a few thing, but settled with original style of the GG second floor windows.
I’ll try to take better pics this weekend and get them on Flickr. Thanks for all input, I will diffidently do this again. It was great getting feedback from other builders. Let me know what you guys think of the “Octan Grocer”

JoeParticipantJoe are you going to Josh’s house next Saturday?
Ben,
I’m hoping to stop by… My wife is working so I’ll have all the kids, but I was thinking of driving up to drop off the LUG Support boxes I sorted and if you’re going to be there I could bring your PaB cups.-

JoeParticipantThanks for the input guys, I have to work this weekend but I’m off Monday so hopefully I’ll have some pictures to post on Tuesday. I’m also trying to use only parts from my collection, so that makes the build a little challenging.
I can’t take credit for the feathers, it was used in 10243 Parisian Restaurant. I read or saw (can’t remember) an interview with Jamie Berard the designer of the both Parisian Restaurant and Green Grocer. He stated he wanted to incorporate the feathers into the GG, but wasn’t able to for budget reasons. So, when I started this build the feathers where one of the main thing I wanted to incorporate.

JoeParticipantBen, I was able to get a large cup of 3741 and a large cup split 50/50 with dark red 1×2 bricks and 1×2 clear plates.
Greg, they didn’t have the Research Scientist in stock.
Now the return trip home begins….
September 14, 2014 at 9:11 pm #7770
JoeParticipantI going up tomorrow, I’ll post a thread asking if anyone needs me to pick anything up. Do you want me to pick up a Research Scientist for you, if they have it in stock?
September 13, 2014 at 7:07 am #7742
JoeParticipantNo not a full list, I just asked about dark red brick, light blay 2×2 tile (not available), and light blay mason bricks (not available.

JoeParticipantGreg,
I’m glad to know I’m not the only who feels pressured and rushed at times, when standing in front of the PaB wall. I called (thanks for the number), they do have dark red1x2 bricks. I’ll pick up one large cup of those and possible a small cup of something else that catches my eye. Along with either the Parisian Restaurant or Palace Cinema, haven’t decided which one just yet.//////////////////////////
Ben, hope you feel better man….
September 11, 2014 at 9:06 am #7721
JoeParticipantGreg, I really did laugh out loud when I read this, your right that would be a much easier solution. Leave it to me to over think things. But if anyone out there does want to do this, let me know.
And “of course” I will be picking a few cups from the P-A-B wall, what kind of AFOL I would be if I didn’t. Do you (or anyone else out there) need me to pick anything for you and could you also send me that link that shows what on the P-A-B walls?

JoeParticipantI had to get it finish last night, because today is going extremely busy and couldn’t guarantee any time for building. Don’t worry all of the kids made it to school/daycare with a warm breakfast in there bellies and on time, but Dad sure is tired. I really wanted to do more with the roof, but it was late and I was having trouble finding the pieces I needed in light blay.
I spent a lot of time working on the windows but couldn’t find a pattern/technique I liked, so I just went with a half stud off set. All-n-all I’m happy with way it came out, it doesn’t look much like the real thing but I still think it’s a good looking building. Just wanted to say “THANKS” to everyone for the support and push to keep going this week! See you guys tomorrow….

JoeParticipantI found some time to work on the GB HQ last night, I stayed the course with the base, just changing the color mostly. I really don’t like the side windows, they definitely didn’t come out as I had planned. Let me know if you have suggestions on how to fix them.
I’m not sure how I’m going to tackle roof, but i really feel like the windows need fixed first. Windows cann make or break a modular building, so I want to get them right.
I’m getting nervous about having it done by tomorrow night, wish me luck.
