I just wanted an easy way for people to see what other people are on discord. I want to keep the culture of real names here on the forum, but I’m not going to force people to change the culture on discord. if you go to edit your profile on this site, click on the settings button, you’ll see a tab for discord. This will allow you to connect your discord account (but no logins or anything are shared). Then, you’ll have a little discord icon below your forum posts.
This allows new users to the forum to be able to join the discord server and automatically have the role to chat and such. No more having to react for roles. Hopefully that will make it easier for people to get familiar.
The problem is discord won’t let you just join the server without verifying your email address to create a discord account if you don’t already have one. I would think a lot of new members won’t have a discord account already. I think this will at least expose them to the possibility, but not force anyone to do it.
also just set http://steelcitylug.com/discord/ to point to the invite link, so it’s easy to remember.
