You can now upload your own MOCs and MILS to both be viewable in a public user specific link, like https://steelcitylug.com/inventory/u/JoshHall/
and your MOC will show up in the layout designer as well (if you want it to). Now we can really plan ahead for events/displays if we want.You can get to the control page from here: https://steelcitylug.com/inventory/?p=myinventory&tab=all or browse to inventory and click on ‘my inventory’ in the top left corner.
The ‘like’ buttons don’t work, and I wasn’t going to put too much effort into fix it just yet. I just wanted to get the functionality out there in support of layouts like home and garden.
Let me know some feedback if you have any, good or bad.
I’ve attempted adding a MOC 3 times now and each time I get a banner saying “saved”, and then I go to the list page again and it’s empty 🙁
oh, i just assumed you’d try a 4th time.
I changed that setting so it works the first time now 😀 watch those image file sizes too. and to be clear, you can select multiple images in that upload.

My little business trip to Europe has revealed multiple timezone bugs in the site that I’m not going to bother to report until they also cause issues in EST 😛

@joshhall, I was able to add a MOC for the Duquesne Incline, description and size first, and then add a photo using the “edit” function after the initial save. When I did that and opened via “edit” again, my name shows up in the “description” field, and there was nothing in the “short code” field?? I also clicked “My Inventory” at the top left and nothing showed up.
I also tried to access it in the Layout Designer to see if I could select and drag it into the Locomotion Weekend layout, but nothing showed up when I clicked the “MOC” button (in LUG, My, of User). I assume you just haven’t gotten to that yet.
OK, I think it’s all fixed in prod and test now. Bob, I happened to see that you created an item in test when i was troubleshooting. While there were somethings not working right there, i fixed them, and promoted it to prod.
Additionally, members with inventory added will have a little brick icon under their forum name.

@joshhall, had to play around a little but got it to work. I tried it in Layout Designer and was able to access it, rotate it and place it into the Locomotion Weekend layout. It assigned it a short code of CLN which wasn’t readily recognizable, so I went into My Inventory and edited the short code to DQI. When I went back into Layout Designer the short code for the block I had already placed on the layout didn’t update automatically, and since there’s only “1” of these resources I couldn’t place another one. Once I deleted the original block I was able to place a new one with the DQI short code.
One suggestion: when you click on the resource to add it to the layout it would be helpful if it showed up on the canvas outside of the area where any blocks are placed. I had to look for a bit before I found it because it placed it over top of other blocks already on the layout, but once I did I could grab it, move it, rotate it and place it. Thanks!

yeah, the inventory is established on load (hence why you had to refresh the page to see DQI) and once placed on the canvas, it’s static (hence having to delete and readd to get the new shortcode). I don’t see that being changed anytime soon, but I also see that becoming less of a problem as people set shortcodes as they like. (I had actually put in CLN when I was validating I could change things).
To the placement, I agree that needs to be better…I liked the ability to just click on something on the toolbox to add it, but it needs a better default destination…I wonder if we have a movable ‘place new items here’ box, if that would be something we’d like…or would that be annoying to always have to be moving THAT around…I’ll have to see how other software, like stud.io does it…
Now to throw a wrench in your noble attempt to make things very organized….. the Snake is not fixed in size. It’s poseable and thus can fit spaces from ~5″ x 9′ down to maybe 2’x2′ it can also overlap other mocs and other mocs can overlap it. Rather than trying to cover all those possibliities I’d still like to see the option to claim table space as we have been doing and not have this moc/mils inventory replace that completely. In a pinch my guess would be to create a “moc” entitled Tim Brown’s creations that is the size I expect to cover in that particular event and that can then be added. Not to mention some folks like myself know they are going to cover a space but don’t always know what they are going to cover that space with up until the night before(or even day of).
I see no wrench. Just different ways to solve the same problem based on the different perspectives or desires or expectations.
If the member wants to “just save some space, I’ll figure it out later” – use the highlight
If the member wants to just have acknowledgement of what they plan to bring to estimate the space it takes, use a generic baseplate, as small as 16×16 or as big as 48×48.
There will always be some real life and conversation to MOC areas especially. Sure, MILS may be more of a Tetris, where we want to fill the space exactly, but MOCs will be able to more flexible and some common sense will apply. You could put in a moc entry for your snake as 16 studs x 128 studs if you want. Whatever dimensions you want. It’s just about claiming the space and doing it live when needed. That’s a big reason why baseplates and mocs can overlap in the layout designer
And like we mentioned with the large radius and corners, a “custom” shape is needed. I had a vision of how I want to do that. Once that “object designer” tool is done, I think you’ll have even more of an option to solve your wrench.
