Does anyone want to propose some parameters for the Q4 microscale vehicle build challenge?

Are there standard features to use so that multiple displays can be shown together?
Should the build feature a single vehicle or can multiple vehicles be used?
Is there a designated size for the habitat?
What scale are those tiny technic construction vehicles anyway?

Actmuseum dot org has an interesting page on different LEGO scales.
(I posted a direct link in the previous version of this post but it was incinerated)

    throwback thursday!

Nostalgia! The LUG certainly has grown in 15 years. Crowkillers had a huge footprint for that show.

I see @juliamorley’s ship in a REAL bottle, years before LEGO created set 21313. She’s a UPMC ER doc now.

I think the IKEA was built by @dc221803, who showed up in a search just THIS morning when I was looking for an image of LUG Doug. 🙂

That looks really nice! Looking forward to seeing it completed.

Thanks Tim, it still needs lot of trees and probably hard to reach people. 🙂 Also I will add the full track, Christmas train, a 9V speed controller/power supply and hopefully a mechanism that energizes the train “on demand.”

I had some more ambitious ideas, but since its my first winter village run at B&M, I am trying to keep it basic. Perhaps next year we can include your Santa HQ with the Heinz factory motif.

I’m looking forward to seeing it completed also. Your garage must be way cleaner than mine.

Yes, the display should be up and running well before the Dec 5th Q4 meeting at the store. As for cleanliness, I put a clean tarp down first, the setup was only complete for a few days and I flipped empty baseplates upside down so that they would not collect dust. Everything is back in boxes now. 📦

Currently working on the winter display for Allison Park B&M. The only place that I had enough room left to flesh out a display that is 5 feet wide and 9 feet long is the garage floor. 😜 The gray and green baseplates are placeholders for buildings that I preferred not to move.

That’s a clever project. I noticed in the video that the guy had his sculpture mounted on a metal rod so he could rotate it. That’s another level of complication.

Just looking at the cube, that could probably be built without needing software, but it would have to be hollow all the way through and I assume the words would have to be backwards on opposing sides. I can’t grasp how the cube could be rotated to show the three separate words as shadow, but an internal light source and three separate outer walls might work.

    RenLUG … documenting the standard.

That’s pretty cool. RenLUG (“renaissance” LEGO builders from Florida) put a lot of work into tweaking the standard while giving SteelCity full credit for the initial idea.

I wasn’t looking for this, but you know how Google eves drops and then makes suggestions.

Anyway this looks like a really cool entry for a graveyard and I would be happy to build one for the cemetery if someone can think of a clever name. I’d be inclined to call it Heartlake Memorial Gardens after the names of 70+ LEGO Friends sets.

Can someone please offer a better name?

I think this is the Frost house and graveyard at Pumpkin Trolley ’25. Maybe some generic tombstones should be made to fill the gaps.

“Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up.”
    – Inigo Montoya

1.Build one or more 10×6 tombstones with an extra layer of brick underneath.
2.The LUG will create MILS 16×16 baseplates with 10×6 holes (w/ tiles on the bottom.)

For what its worth, when I was working on a similar project, I found the standard LEGO green color to be offensively cheery for a cemetery. As a result, I burned through a large number of 1×2 sand green plates to cover it up. My suggestion therefore is to consider topping the baseplate MILS with a color that is sombre. Perhaps you have a supply of tiles (aforementioned sidewalk?) in a shade of tan or gray to accomplish this.

Recently, Google has become less helpful with this sort of image recognition task. Anyway, I found the answer by looking for sets with a 1×4 reddish brown panel.

I was there yesterday, the only interesting part I remember was 1×1 clear tiles.

@carlsonf, as you probably know, there is a LUG member who is obsessed with nuclear models AND who is an exceptional MOC designer. Perhaps @playingwithechoes would like to take this on.

    openings for school counseling positions

As you probably know, you need PA certification to work in a public school in PA, unless they are really desperate, then the Dept of Ed sometimes grants “emergency certifications.” Private schools don’t require certification, but they also don’t have as many counselors.

Schools in districts which are deemed more desirable to work, often do not post openings because they don’t want to deal with a huge number of applications.

https://www.paeducator.net/ is where jobs are posted and where prospective employees post their information so that schools can find them.

Maybe @jrosie has a suggestion on this topic, she’s closer to the process. I found my first two teaching jobs through newspaper ads, the third from insider information.

the short version is look for teaching jobs by registering yourself on http://www.paeducator.net

I went to an art museum and I saw a lenticular, a Robert Indiana sculpture and a Monet. I could have just gone to the LEGO store. Well, at least they had a Picasso.

I think logistics to and from work are important to consider. You cannot travel each of the routes for a week to assess the traffic situation, but you could have Google maps provide an ETA from location to location at the times you would be in transit. Food for thought.
